Our new neighbors

Posted December 4, 2007 at 1:38PM by FrecklQn

This entry is a pleasure to write!

I've written twice already on some complaints and crotchedy neighbors we have in our new neighborhood. Well, this past weekend, my husband started framing the house. It was 16 degrees outside. I don't know how he does it. . .but he does, and without even complaining. Anyway, we were due for a big nor'easter starting Sunday night, so he was working hard to get the floor down before the snow came, so our basement would not be full of snow.

On Sunday morning, our neighbors across the street came over and introduced themselves to my man. Then, they asked if he'd like some coffee or tea. After a few minutes of back and forth, and the neighbor realizing my man likes a little coffe with his cream and sugar, she made him a cup of extra latte cappacino, or something Starbucks-like. . .something that took a little extra TLC. She then sat and chatted w/ him while he drank up the concoction.

Next, the neighbor a few houses up came to introduce himself. He was in his 60's and has building experience. He was eager to chat with my husband about typical manly stuff, and as he was leaving, offered to let us borrow any of his tools if my hubby should forget something sometime. What a guy!

Last, during the second half of the day, the neighbor 2 doors down, also in his 60's came to offer his services. 16 degrees out on a Sunday afternoon, and this man volunteers to help do back-breaking work for a man he's never met! My man was thrilled to have the help since it was pretty much dark at that point and he had a bit of work left to go. Not to mention, it was enough to bring tears to our eyes that our neighbors were being, well. . .neighborly!

yeah!

  Mommy of 2 Girls!

Finally! The neighbors are coming around! Hope it's not the "calm before the storm" and they continue to be the neighbors they should be :) Your husband deserves so much for doing that in 16 degree weather!

  Life is crazy but wonderful.

I have always found that most people are nice and helpful, but it is the mean ones that are always the most vocal and ruin it for everyone. I'm happy the nice people finally came out and helped you out. It sounds like you will have nice neighbors when you finally do move in.

There ARE Good People left. Glad you found some wonderful neighbors. That is what makes home feel like home....good neighbors.
We only rent here and are looking to buy our first home but what will sadden us is leaving the wonderful neighbors here. They are awesome.
It makes us feel comforted that we all look out for one another. Even all the dogs get along!
Hats off to your hubby for all his hard work. Sounds like you've got a good one too.
Best wishes to you all on building that house. Sounds exciting. Stay warm and as my daughter says: Drink lots of Hot Chocolate to keep warm!!

I bet what felt like lots of neighbors who were against you was really just one neighbor. It was probably one bad seed in the bunch who was causing the craziness before. I am glad to hear you are meeting some nice ones.
