Indoor activities?

Well.....WE ARE FINALLY GETTING RAIN!!! It has rained for the past 3 days and it's our 4th day of good steady rain. The trees look like they are smiling now. My Fall flowers are definately smiling.

BUT.....

DD and I and the pup have been stuck inside. So we are working on jogging my brain for easy/quick inside activities...(that I can do with her between cleaning catch-up). We did Fall leaves yesterday and played yard sale counting coins and learning what they are, painting the day before and ABC's puzzles. We are working on Thank you notes today but I would like to add another activity of something for her to make for Daddy and I need some ideas.....????

Today is the first day that I have let her watch cartoons in the am and she is very excited about that.

Oh yeah...and because of the rain, she has napped the past two days. I finally got the accounting book updated! What a relief.

So what ideas do you have for us today?

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!

Make wrapping paper. Get some craft paper in rolls and let her put stickers, glitter glue and drawings all over the paper. Then when a birthday or holiday comes up you'll have customer wrapping paper ready to go.

On rainy days I love to cook and bake. Make some pumkin bread and let her stir and decorate with rasins.

Stick her in the tub and you can catch up on your reading or clean the bathroom while she's soaking.

filling the sink with water and utensils for pouring is fun, scavenger hunts, mapmaking (not to scale but include neighborhood or town), puppet shoes, stuffed animal tea-time, dance party (duh, right?), etc. I'll post a good bunch soon.

Gee wiz...I know I'm tired and worn out but come on already. Last night I was coming out of the kitchen with my drink (finally) of ice water and turned to shut the gate behind me and SMASH my foot right into the wall. The wall didn't move...imagine that! I whacked it good though. Today it still hurts and I don't know if it is just bruised or maybe I broke or fractured something. I really am going to hold off on going to get it x-rayed unless I get to the point of not being able to walk on it. It hurts like a mug though. Weird expression. Well, then this am I turned around too fast and whacked my head on the table. Two seconds later DD did the same thing. Is this dreary weather to blame? At least we are finally getting some rain.

Wish the rain would move to California though. I'm praying for them out there. Gosh that is really bad.

Fall colors

Fall Colors:

Sitting in traffic on 287, at least the fall colors brightened our spirits. 6hr. trip turned into 10 1/2 hrs. Thank goodness the colors were so beautiful, helped pass the time.

This is on the way to my Grandpa's house in New England. The colors were so beautiful!

I love all the red!

Gold..whoa! This tree glittered in the sun. It was awesome.

Okay cool. will do that, maybe I'll wait for Halloween when dd is all decked out. I can't wait to see everyone else's photo's too. Taking pictures of Fall Foliage is my passion (beside of Miss M). I wish I could do it for a living! Most of these were on the way to Gramps...aren't they awesome....it was so pretty up there...I couldn't resist taking these pictures.

Yup it is that season again...runny noses! Errrrrr. Now my dd is 3 1/2 and I have not been able to teach her to blow her nose. When I ask her too or try and teach her she sniffs INWARD not outward. I asked the In laws and they couldn't offer any help and DH and I are at a lose of ideas to teach her how to blow out threw her nose.

Help!!!!

I have no idea. When I tell my 4 year old to blow his nose, he will blow through his mouth. I think he may be to young, my daughter took forever to learn how to blow her nose, and really only learned last year. She just couldn't figure it out until then. If someone else knows I would like to know also.

Looking for some housing market insight & opinions

Well, it has been about 10 months now that DH and I have been looking to buy our first house (single family). But we put our dd first meaning that we are not going to sacrifice her just to get into a house....let me explain. We decided before she was born that I would stay home with her and then when she goes to school I could then get a part-time job that didn't interfere with being there for her before and after school. We are just one of those people that prefer to raise our child instead of a daycare person raising her while we both work. And just to be clear we are NOT against daycare or their workers or peoples decisions to go back to work full time and put their children in daycare. We applaud their decisions to do that cause that is what they feel is the best for their situation or they have no other choice to do and lets face it....sometimes we just need that break from them and them from us. We understood the sacrifices we would have to make but felt and understand it's for our daughters best interest and future. That's just our stand point.

So anyhow....trying to find a house here in MD in one specific location where the schools are good and in our price range has been a real frustrating struggle for us. BECAUSE..... we have JUST BEEN OUT OF REACH by a few thousand dollars. Yes we could go the route of asking family to help out just a little more but they are helping plenty enough and we don't feel the houses are worth what these sellers are asking for them. We want to maintain a strict budget so we don't become "house poor". So with all that said....it's been so very frustrating to us. We have made 3 contract offers and all have come back asking for more money. We can't afford anymore and their houses are so very over priced. It's nuts. We have seen some houses come down a little in price but not enough to where we think it is legitimate for this market. Oh yeah and just to let you know where we are looking is another half hour drive added onto dh's already 45 minute commute to work. Yeah....YUCK!

We have heard from our family what they think the market will do here in the next few months and into next year. My question to all of you is ........

WHAT do YOU THINK the housing market will do in the next few months to a year?

I think that you should wait. It is turning into a bear market and the prices will continue to fall. Don't pay too much for your house, I'm sure you have seen people who now owe more than what their houses are worth. That is never the situation you want to be in. I bet next summer will look a lot different then right now, since the spring and the summer is when people want to move and are more willing to lower their prices. If you are pre-approved look for foreclosures and make a bid, you could get a steal.

Jessica Seinfield and some questions and her answers. I really think she stole those ideas from Sneaky Chef, but that is just my opinion. I am glad to know people are more health conscience as to what they are feeding their children. We have major problems with our health care in this country and if we can help fight diseases with nutrition all that much better for our children's futures. Our children are what are most important in our lives and we strive everyday to protecting them and doing good by them (they count on us), so if we can get more healthy foods in them "The Sneaky Chef" way, YippiEEEEEEEE I say!

As many of you know I am an advocate in the Fight to find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes and yup I like wine too :)

So when I read this article it just put a big smile on my face. To those adults out there that like wine....Drink Your Red! Try to find a wine low in sulfates as well. Sulfates are a preservative and are not good for your body, so the lower the sulfates the purer the wine and more health benefits it provides the body. A glass with dinner is a great thing and also a nice way to wind down the day.

see now my dd has a play kitchen already but she wants a bigger one with more options, and DH and I talked and said if we do go ahead and get her this (cause she keeps saying it) that that will be IT. One gift from us this year and one gift from Santa and her stocking and then what ever family and friends get her. We really went over board last year and just can't do it anymore. She's so spoiled (but well mannored) and have no place for anything else. We are going to sell her old kitchen at a yard sale here when Spring time arrives next year.

Bring on Fall already

Well today is suppose to be our last day of HOT weather for the next week. The past few days we've broken records here. Just been yukie and humid. I'm so ready to turn the AC off and open the windows. Looks like tomorrow will be my day. How do I know for sure......HERE GO MY DANG SINUS' AGAIN! Everytime the weather changes they go nuts. Heading back upstairs to rinse with the Neti Pot and hope for the best. DD is sniffling too. I'll take it as long as the cooler weather (Fall NOT winter) gets here.

OMG, I can't take it either! I am from NY originally and have lived in NC since 1991. I am still not used to it being 90 degrees on Oct 10!!!! Can't wait for long sleeves, but not coats weather!

I'm in a slump

My slump is that I REALLY DON'T FEEL LIKE COOKING AT ALL LATELY....say like the past week. Most of the things I've thrown together have been cold (not that cold veggies are bad they are even better for you) but we are now craving hot meals but NEITHER of US feels like cooking and also NEITHER of US feels like spending the money for take out. Hmmmmmm......think we better get out of this slump. BUT then why do i still have to do dishes twice a day? Oh that reminds me....need to go buy more cereal! LOL.

It happens to me to. My hubby usually makes dinner when I am in the slump. It will pass. It is starting to get cool up here, and that is always my motivator to cook warm meals. I made italian wedding soup yesterday, and I am making creamy leek potato soup tomorrow, we love soups and I can make them in my slow cooker.

oh you are a vegetarian? I am sorry! try the old pasta standbye...ot the pasta + olive oil + bread crumbs. It's really tasty and SO easy.

heat olive oil (enough to coat the pasta- angel hair is good...)

brown diced or crsuhed garil in the oil

pour over noodles

toss with bread crumbs...delicious!

another good one?

tortillas, 1 can refritos, one can enchilada sauce, cheese
(rice if you want)

make burritos out of the beans, rice
roll
put into a glass dish
cover with the canned sauce
sprinkle with cheese
microwave for 5 minutes.

dinner is served. add extras as you like.

It's filling and with rice- a complete protein (rice, cheese & beans, right?)...of course just bake it if you don't nuke your food....does that help?

other easy fillers:
grilled cheddar cheese on whole grain bread with apples YUMMY! we did that the other day: big hit!

hmmm...what else? taco salads are easy and filling... best of luck!

My hubby usually does quesidillas. We use whatever leftovers we have, steak or chicken, since you are a vegetarian, use cheese. With tortillas, cheese, and some spices it is always yummy. We usually have some salsa on the side. The kids love it to.

We are what you call Semi-Vegetarians. Sometimes we will eat meat but on rare occasions. We had those Angus hamburger patties in our freezer from Sam's Club that were just recalled due to E-coli...we had eaten two patties already but they were well done but it is still upsetting.....so we are banning ourselves from meat. Chicken ..... sometimes. That is the only meat that DD will eat (in nugget form at Restaurants or from Sam's club). That is about our extent. We are mostly veggie and pasta people and dustbunny your recipe with the olive oil and bread crumbs sound wonderful and I will give that a try. Thanks. Cooler weather is coming this weekend so hope my slump ends.. :)

To Pierce or Not to Pierce & Timing?

I know everyone has a difference in opinion on the issue of letting their daughter get her ears pierced.

Some parents have their babies ears pierced at a very young age and others don't let their daughter get their ears pierced until they are at least 13 or older.

I know in the end it is the decision of the parent as to when they allow their daughter to pierce her ears, ........

but I am wondering what you all think or feel on the topic?

Mommy of 2 Girls!

I begged my mom for years, she finally let me get mine pierced at 11. Once I got them, I couldn't keep my hands off of them. I was so excited about it and wound up with a massive infection from my ear to the middle of my neck.

I am 28 and have a 17 month old daughter and got hers pierced at 6 months. I went prepared, she was happy, I brought a bottle-2 minutes later it was over and she didn't even cry. She was able to get one earring out at 12 months old and found out they did not use the screw on backings. I replaced the backings with rubber ones with a jewelers advice and they are excellent-she cannot get them off.

It's completely up to the mom, but my daughter was bald and still pretty much is. Everyone says what a cute little boy. She is my first, I didn't want everyone to call her a boy. I never ever thought I would pierce my baby's ears, but once I had a little girl, I changed my mind.

well there is no way daughters wouldnt wear earrings so you have to pierce and in my opinion 5-6 yrs is the right age because the skin would be soft and better if you get it done in winter. my mom done mine when i was 6 years old

I have a daughter and I alwasy figured whenever she wanted to do it. She is going to be 10 and she has no interest in it. I don't wear earrings, I had mine pierced repeatedly, they just heal over as soon as an earring is removed and I constantly get infections. Maybe since she doesn't see me wearing them, she doesn't think about it. I don't see anything wrong with having their ears pierced, but I agree with rockergirl, I wouldn't pierce a babies. It is just a lot of work, at least it was for me.

I don't think it's a big deal, a lot of it is cultural. I hear you WIL Mom, my DD was bald, bald, bald until 2-ish, but I didn't get mine peirce until 13 so I think I'll wait until my DD asks.

What do you think about boys getting thier ear(s) peirced? I've been seeing more boys with one ear peirced and young kids too, like 2 years old.

I am with vtmomof2 on the subject of boys getting their ears pierced.
My feelings are that when my daughter asks to get them pierced and she can take care of them and put them in and take them out, then ok.
DH has a whole nother perspective take on this subject. I will get him to dictate it to me so I can post it for you all to read the "Man's" take on when his daughter is ready/allowed for getting her ears pierced....LOL.

My mom let me get my ears pierced when I was ready. She didn't do it for me when I was a baby and she didn't restrict how old I was going to be either. It worked out great and I am really happy with how she handled it. I ended up getting my ears pierced a second time because I liked it so much, ha ha.

On mine it now says "Creat an Entry" (thanks MyBaby for changing the wording). If they made the change while you still had an active browser open you may want to try refreshing or closing your browser and opening a new one and logging in again.

Night time talking and Night terrors

My daughter talked in her sleep almost all night last night. She laughed and giggled and carried on conversations. It was a trip to listen to. I know this cause I couldn't sleep last night. She also has some nights where she will wake up screaming. Night terrors.

anyone else experience these things and is there anything we (parents) can do to help them with night terrors?

S has night terrors and you can't wake her up. I've noticed she has them around the same time between 10:30 - 11 PM. I've read if you wake them up b4 it happens that can help. I haven't tried yet b/c it doesn't happen every night...

When my children were little (I'm working on grandchildren now) I gave them a high protein snack just before bed. This *prevented* the night terrors. I have the same problem. It has been postulated that a sudden blood sugar drop can cause them. Hope this helps.

My daughter is 3 and a half and she just stopped having NIght Terrors about four months ago. She would scream and cry in her sleep every night. The only good thing is that in the morning she did not remember then. My doctor told me NOT to wake her up, just make sure there is nothing in their way that came hurt them. They are very scary to watch because you think your child is in pain.

Sinus'

Well we have all talked about it here before about the Neti pot. OMG... my Grandmother the sweetheart got me and gave it to me the last time up North and last Thursday I came down with another sinus infection but really refused to go to the Doctor and get on another anti-biotic. I was sick of that and don't think it is good for my immune system. So I broke out the Neti pot. I'M SOLD. That thing took my yukies from dark yellow to clear after ONE treatment. I have been doing it everyday in the morning in the shower and think it has saved me. I've been taking Sudafed PE on top of my sinus' med's and the dark yellow yukies are gone. I think I have a cold on top of it cause DH has brought something home from work and now we are all coughing and sneezing, but I think with rest we'll do us good.

Go Neti Pot is all I have to say.

Yes...Hail the Neti Pot! Also good for watering the plants!!!! LOL. I have been using it every morning in the shower and I'm slowly getting better.
S_M - trust me not as gross as spit up or projectile vomit or a snoky kids nose all over your works clothes pointed out by your boss upon late arrival to the staff meeting! .....Gosh I'm glad I decided to stay home finally.

Listening?

Well DD is 3 1/2 and we are battling with the NOT Listening stage and it is so frustrating. Anyone else feel our pain?

BUT today was a GOOD day. I had a rough night sleep last night and just couldn't wake up this morning, but DD had no troubles waking at 7:30 am. She was ready to go, excited about Gymnastics today. I finally peeled myself out of bed and somehow (don't remember) got downstairs and made dd waffles for breakfast. I finally woke up after my second cup of coffee. Then it was off and running to get her ready and dressed for Gymnastics and a few chores around the house before out the door.

DD was so good when I asked her to do the things I needed her to do like getting herself dressed in her leotard and shoes and letting me do her hair without fuss. My head was spinning by this time and asking myself the question today....Is this my kid?

She has been in this phase of everything is "I can't do it". Oh that just rattles our bones. So I had a talk with her before class and told her that I didn't want to hear her say that even once (cause she really gets all the other kids in the class to say it and it gives the teacher a really tough time). Told her that if she is unable to do something then to ask the teacher for help and say "I'll try" or "I need help" instead of "I can't do it".

After about a half hour into the class I still hadn't heard her say it. I was impressed. Also so proud that she with the teachers help climbed up the rope half way! All the other parents were so proud of her too. I smiled from ear to ear and was filled with such pride. She's strong.

Well when class was over I gave her the biggest hug and told her how proud of her I was and so impressed at her wiliness and listening skills. I told her she deserved a special treat and took her to the Organic market and let her pick out whatever cereal she wanted and got her the bread she loves (sunflower seed bread). Got home and had lunch and tried to get her to nap but that didn't happen and it was getting so late. Decided to take her outside and rake the leaves in the front yard and she was a BIG help cleaning them all up.

I hope we have more repeats of today but without these darn sinus colds. They are miserable.

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!

That's is impressive. We tell DD that we can't understand her when she talks in a whiney voice, and she trys to tell us again what's she's saying with a nicer voice and that works for us.
