Update on Birthday
Posted September 28, 2007 at 8:52PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
Wow. This has been one of the best birthdays I've had in a long while. My mood has changed and though despite being sick and gaining another year, I've been pretty happy all day. DH and I talked last night and I kinda figured out what triggers my moodiness around my birthdays. Think that helped to put some it behind me. Yeah.
Woke up to coffee, toast and a rose in bed. DH and DD spoiled me today and we had a lot of fun as a family. Watch a beautiful day outside too. Especially going to the Apple Orchard and getting apples. I made an apple pie for my "birthday pie" but I used too much lemon and it didn't quite turn out awesome, so I'll try again this weekend. The apples were O SO GOOD.
All in All a good birthday with beautiful peach roses and NEW music cd's and extra hugs and kisses from my DH and DD to make it wonderful. I also got a surprise too...A phone call from the florist saying they delivered an arrangement to my house and left it on the step. Come home and it was a beautiful fall arrangement from my best friend (I have known her 1/2 my life). It was so sweet and thoughtful and just made me smile. I received so many wonderful birthday cards/e-mail wishes too that made me feel so loved and lucky. Plus my Dad and Gram calling and signing to me....makes me laugh, but it's something I always look forward too.
My DH has always wondered why my family makes such a big deal about wishing someone a happy birthday and then BOOM hit him today as to why....we are accident prone and we are so THANKFUL and Happy that we survive to live another year! LMAO!!!!! I laughed so hard at this one cause it's TRUE.
Oh a really cool thing too....the little girl next door and I have the same birth date. She turned 7 today. We are going to her birthday party tomorrow. We've watched her grow up so much in the past five years. It is amazing how much they change and how fast the time flies.
Hope you all had a great day too.

Everyone deserves to be recognized for who they are, not just how great they are bringing up their kids, and birthdays are a great time to do that. Best wishes, and know that friends, family (both relatives and DH and DD) take this occasion to wish you all the happiness a heart can hold.

Another Bday
Posted September 25, 2007 at 6:23PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
Man here I go again. The week of my birthday I turn into crazy lady. I feel like I go nuts the week of my birthday and then once it is over, I'm all better. But leading up to it is horrible for DH and I cause I start getting a little depressed, moody, worrying about everything and anything and well just a little freaked out. I can't explain why I get that way and I've tried to change it but every single year since I was about a teenager I've been this way. Not anything major like severe depression, but just one day of tears for about an hour (which was this afternoon while DD napped and DH just laughed with me on the phone while I got it out cause he knows how it goes) and then just worrying about everything and depressed cause I'm another year older and still not the weight or size I want to be cause I always struggle with weight issues. It's so silly. Next week will be better. At least what seems to look like good movies are coming out on my birthday. Hope I get to go see one.
Anyone else go through similar things around their birthdays? What do you do?
dhiya responded September 26, 2007 at 6:25AM
I do get those kind of feelings at times but I just can help you by saying that you just need to think of the happy times when you feel low so that it may help you change your mood and feel better...It works for me to some extent and I hope this will help you...
dustbunny responded September 26, 2007 at 8:21AM
i do this: hey, no, don't worry about my b-day...then I get upset when nobody makes a big deal out of it...:) Of course this year, I got blasted with awesome gifts so I am NOT complaining...however, that aside, I've been totally depressed about turning 30- my neighbor was lamenting turning 40 yesterday...it's the feelings of "what if my life had been like...."that gets me as I age...midlife crisis, bring it on. I feel you on the weight/size issues. It's like every year I say, this year I'll feel good and... nope. Oh well. Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Boy it's been some year. We have watched our DD really grow. She rode her first carnival ride by herself this year to now riding even scarier rides all by herself. Wow, when a child turns 3 they really grow and mature A LOT!
It is such a fun and trying age. We can do more things! Just love to see her excitement and smiles. That's the best.
Honestly her laugh and hugs are what I live for! ( i could really do without the whinning and not listening....HAHAHAHA LMAO!)

sheepish drama
Posted September 23, 2007 at 5:32PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
My daughter was so dramatized over not going near any of the animals at the fair.... DH and I think it was cause her G&G were with us and she is such a drama queen child especially when they are around. Well, we decided we weren't falling for her trap this time and made her (gently convinced) pet a sheep.
OMG....once she did, she went petting as many as she could...then a goat....then a pig.....then a cow (which tried to kiss her)....then a pony....then she wanted to pet more animals....I'm just shaking my head the whole time and laughing cause G&G finally saw what I've been talking about with her and that I am right!
I said she needs to spend a week on Old McDonald's Farm to toughen her up. She is such a city girl. Scared of flies, bugs...etc.... Drives us crazy cause mostly it is just drama and "look at me" attention getter. Frustrating. We can tell when it is drama and when it is for real. It was for real when it came to going into the beef barns, but fake when it came to the piggies. Oui!
Any suggestions to help curve that? My father's suggestion was to have another kid. that is his excuse for us about anything. we are one and done so that's not a resolution. is this just a phase and it will pass too? gosh hope so. I think it is in her blood and that makes me nervous (gotta be the center of attention type). :\
she is not in preschool yet, but I am going to try and get her into this one in January. It's a first come first serve basis but hear it is GREAT! please keep your fingers crossed for us.

So I'm having a Tastefully Simple Party here Saturday and we've been doing things around the house to make it look nice and make us feel better. (ie... took back our living room....ahhh what a good feeling by putting DD's toys downstairs in the toy room & keeping them there!) Tried to do the whole thing US made but OMG...that task is so hard! My new throw pillows are but my under the table baskets are China. I did find these beautiful picture frames at Walmart none-the-less that are made in the US! They are very elegant and we were shocked. Put some pictures of DD when she was just a few days old in them.
We are heading out to the Fair today and I'm going to a concert there with my In-laws, but yesterday I think I caught a bug. I am so wiped and feel well just plain off and weird. I had a slight fever last night too which is unlike me. I also went to bed at 8pm which is also unlike me. Today I have so much to do around the house and I'm worn out already. I really believe it is my sinus' cause this weather keeps flopping back and forth from cool to warm and it just drives my sinus' nuts. If I don't feel better tomorrow, I might get a Dr.'s appointment to make sure I don't have a dang sinus' infection. The sinus' canal around my nose is so sore.
Anyone else suffering with the cooler temps coming in?
Hope I get my energy back so I can enjoy DD at the fair and also the concert.

A few minutes to myself finally

Hi. Hope everyone is doing well.
Boy it's just been crazy this past week. I've missed sitting down and just chatting on here so much. But the plus side is that we have a NEWLY redecorated living room. Yeah! The house hunting search is going just depressing for us (who are so more than ready to move), so we decided on DH's time off that we would just spend a couple hundred dollars and redo the living room. We rent so the wall colors are always white and have to stay that way. I touch up painted so no more marks on the walls. We changed out the white curtains for navy ones. Moved the entertainment center downstairs in the toy room for DD's movie center and more toy storage and DH put our TV up on the wall in the corner (so it's no longer the focal point of the room). DH stained our unfinished coffee and end tables (been about 9 yrs in the unfinished condition, needed a bunch of sanding first), got a new Eiffel tower lamp (that I just love, hope to go there some day) and square shade so it fits snug in the corner, got new throw pillows to match our "American flag" theme....navy, cream and burgundy.... and rearranged all the furniture....OH yes and moved all of DD's toy OUT of it. We took back our living room again and made it Adult friendly again. Good feeling too.
I'm having a Tastefully Simple party (my best friend is a Consultant) here next weekend and wanted it to look nice for guests and that was such a wonderful motivation to get us to do all the above. DD loves it! Her reaction...."Wow, MommyDaddy it looks GREAT". Boy that made us feel wonderful.
I also bought a couple picture frames (US made) and need to put some updated pictures of DD in them. DH did a wonderful job on staining the tables. I was shocked at how different they look. It's like we got new furniture.
I just finished staining a key/mail holder to put up by the door and it came out nice too. Wow, matching furniture for a change. It's a nice feeling.
So now I'm going to sit here and drink my iced latte and catch up on everyone's journals over the past week. Looking forward to reading them while DD (grouchie pants) naps.

Mosquitoes
Posted September 6, 2007 at 9:57PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
My goodness I went outside for 15 minutes this afternoon and came in with over 20 Mosquitoes bites. DD had about 5. I covered myself with Calamine lotion. They are evening bothering our puppy. I don't know what to due about it except stay inside but then some sneak in and begin their feast on me. Can I eat something that will sour my blood so I don't attract them so much? Lemon?
We have the Burt Bee's bug repellant but that doesn't work so well. I don't want to cover us before every outing outside either. Like taking the pup out for five minutes type thing. The mosquitoes' are just vicious. Is there something that I can put around the house that will repel them?
They are really bad. My neighbor came over with her puppy and we let the two play but had to cut it short cause her and I were being eaten alive.
rockergirrl responded September 6, 2007 at 10:02PM
unfortunatly unless you are willing to spray nasty chemicals all over your body or in your yard mosquitoes are just going to be around. The best defense is avoid the high times of the day when they are around. I feel lukcy - where I live they have been on an all time low. In NH though they are having a major issue with a deadly disease they carry called Tripple E. Some towns in NH are spraying entire towns to kill them off. How scary. To be afraid of what the insect can give you and the air you must breath after they spray your town.
dustbunny responded September 6, 2007 at 10:04PM
oh, I watched jon stossel on 20/20 - mosquitos are more attracted to people with high blood pressure and who like beer...random, right?
LatteMommy responded September 6, 2007 at 10:08PM
That is so funny cause DH has high bp and I have very low bp. Mosquitoes don't bother him much but they come from miles around to feast on my blood. It is aweful outside our house.
mommyof5 responded September 7, 2007 at 12:48AM
I don't know if it works on humans, but I used to work for a pet product company that sold garlic tablets for dogs, and it was said to keep the mosquitos away. If it works on the dogs, then it might work on humans. Try eating a whole lot of garlic.
vtmomof2 responded September 7, 2007 at 8:28AM
I heard that mosquitos are attracted to women and children more than men because our skin is thinner. My doctor says that eating a mostly veggie diet repels bugs, I don't know if that works but he swears that eating a lot of meat causes bugs to be attracted to your protein rich blood. It is too late this year but next year plant a bunch of marigolds, they don't like this flower.
LatteMommy responded September 7, 2007 at 10:05AM
Thanks everyone! Great tips. vtmomof2 I will try that merigold planting thing next year. I love merigolds so I'll be sure to plant those next year and have DD help me. Hope we are not even here at this house next year. Hope I'm planting in "my own" garden next year and then I can plant all sorts of flowers and veggies.DD and I have little red spots all over us this am from where the mosquitoes feasted on us last night. Should like so pretty with her ballet leotard today....lol.
Preschool Question
Posted September 6, 2007 at 11:57AM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
How far in advance should I look into a preschool for DD next year? She'll be 4 in March and we would like her to go a couple days a week then to prepare her for Kindergarten. Do spots fill up fast? Do I need to look now and reserve a spot now? Or can it be like a month prior to sending her? Any ideas or advice on this would be very helpful to DH and I. School suggestions that gear toward learning rather than daycare would be helpful. Not too pricey would be helpful too, but I know that may be pushing it....LOL.
Thanks in advance.

I waited on a list for a year before I got my son in. So the sooner the better. I just put Kaitlyn in this year once Jacob came out Kaitlyn went straight in. She is having a little seperation issue, but she will adjust. She goes two half days a week.
Smplicty29 responded September 25, 2007 at 8:37AM
I think it really depends where you live. Stares like NY and CA probably have preschool fill up much faster then states like NC, where we live. I work for a preschool right now. My daughter attended last year as a 3 year old and is now back in the 4's this year. I teach the three year old class. We have about 14 kids in the 2,3 and 4 year old classes, but there is an assistant in each class and currently we do not have a wait list. It really depends on where you live or if there is one in particular preschool in the area that everyone wants to get into.

Hi, I'm in Australia. A friend of mine was a Director at a kindy. In our state (a few yess ago, they just changed the rules...) you go to kindy the year you turn 4. (We go by claendar years is Aust, not the big break in the middle of the year) So, for example, children born 2003 would have gone to kindy in 2007. Places were filling us so fast that my friend often had full groups by May of the year the kids were born (in this case, 2004). The groups were full before many of the kids were even born! They had to change the dates the took the bookings (so for kids born 2004, the books opened on Feb 1 2005).My advice - the sooner the better. Also, is there a chance you might move to a different city to be closer to family etc? Might not hurt to have your name down somewhere there too.
LatteMommy responded October 2, 2007 at 11:08AM

writing letters & present
Posted September 6, 2007 at 11:52AM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
DD is 3 1/2 now and surprising me everyday with her ability to write letters of the alphabet. She is doing so well.
Are kids at this age suppose to be able to write a bunch of letters by now and recognize what they are?
Wondering if DD is on track, behind or ahead of game. What I should be working harder with her on?
We are working on drawing our shapes too. She loves doing mazes now and connect the dots.
OMG...since I'm not feeling the greatest ...DD gave me a great present this morning. When she woke this am she got up and went potty and wiped all by herself and then went back in her bed and read her princess book quietly by herself and let me sleep in. It was wonderful. I got up at 9 am!!! How awesome is that. Needed the sleep something terrible too. I gave her mini blueberry muffins as a special treat for being so nice to Mommy. :-}

In the state of Florida For Kindergarden it's insane what Kids are supposed to know.. Write and say the whole alphabet, Write and spell their name, address, phone number ect... I have my son in Pre-K to teach him those skills. I'd say she's ahead of the game! although most girls always are, LOL
rockergirrl responded September 6, 2007 at 12:27AM
that is great she can write some letters. I come from the belief that academics should not be pushed on children and that reading and writing should not start until later. At 3 1/2 in my opinion play play play is all they need.
dustbunny responded September 6, 2007 at 12:53AM
hey, I was hard core with my first. he knew all his sounds and was reading "bob" books by four. he had his continents labeled and knew about famous artists. I sent him to a fab preschool NOW my second, well that's a different story. I let him play (he's turning 4 in OCt) and I've hardly pushed anything on him. In fact, I felt bad today when he came home from his new preschool all excited about a story with three bears...I was like, goldilocks? I never told you goldilocks? but, still he has other qualities that my older one never had- like a CRAZY imagination...it depends on the kid and the environment (my second has a younger sibling to play with)...also, some little kids prefer devouring information and memorizing (my oldest wouldn't have liked sitting around playing, I guarantee it) and others hardly care - just do what you think she's enjoying...and I do think they enjoy learning letters and sounds, it's just one of many things they can master early :)
vtmomof2 responded September 6, 2007 at 1:14PM
My daughter could write her letters, numbers up to 25 and tell time to the minute by 3 1/2. But my son on the other hand is 4 and he is not at all interested in writing, reading, numbers, telling time or much beyond running. I don't push either one, they are just different. My daughter loves to be studious, she loves maps, puzzles, reading and writing, my son loves jumping, running, making stories up and rolling on the floor. They are who they are and they are both perfect in my eyes. I don't push it though whatever they are interested in is what I do. My son's preschool teacher did say he was normal for a boy, they are a little behind girls.

I talked to my hubby last night and he said to look for paint with a low VOC, it should be on the label. He also said that they don't carry it at home depot and it is a little pricey. The funny thing after I talked to him I was reading Womans Day magazine and they had a blurb about low VOC paint and the fumes it said you can buy it at sherwin williams. Happy painting!
LatteMommy responded September 6, 2007 at 10:29AM
Thanks so much. Sherwin Williams is right up the road from where we live (closer than Home Depot). I will go talk to them and get a can of that low fume paint. I'll need to paint over our mural on DD's wall when we get ready to move (that will be sad for DH and I cause we painted it together for DD). I'm spot painting around the house today to get rid of dark marks and scuffs. DH told me that the painting I did made him feel better cause it looked so clean. That made me feel a little better, but this cold is draining me. I'm going to drink some tea with lemon and honey and take my vitamin c and nap when DD naps.

OMG. I finally got my act together and painted the guest room wall that I've been meaning to do for two months now. Well, I didn't realize that this paint had such strong fumes. Well at least I think they were strong. (I can't smell too good as my smell sensor was knocked out by a horse accident when I was a child) After i finished, I came downstairs and now feel dizzy and got a headache and feel a little loopie. I had the window open and the AC on too. Weird. Glad DD is sleeping so I can finish airing that room out.
Got any tips on low fume paints? What brands? Will keep those in mind for when we buy a house.
We rent right now and just bought the cheepest white paint we could find. Most smelly one too and I can't smell well. I closed the room and kept the window open to not let the fumes go to the rest of the house.
Wall looks much better now. Glad that is done.

vtmomof2 responded September 5, 2007 at 5:06PM
Was it oil based? Latex based is much better for inside and shouldn't have fumes. I've used oil based before and you do get headaches and feel loopy if you are exposed to it too long. Next time if it is oil based open all the windows and use a fan.
LatteMommy responded September 5, 2007 at 5:11PM
I think it is a latex paint. I'm sensitive to fumes even if I can't smell them well. I'm better now but have a fan blowing out the window. Smells better already.

I think I need to go through our closets again and get rid of clothes that are OLD. DH has t-shirts that are just worn through. Shorts and jeans that have ripes in them. I have shirts that I just don't like to wear or feel comfortable in....so think I'm going to give them to Goodwill.
My daughter has a whole bunch of shoes....size 7 and smaller that are in great shape and I just can't believe that she barely got to wear them. Dress shoes, sneakers, boots. Oh My they grow so fast. The winter boots that I bought her last year she only wore them twice. They look like the day I bought them. She also has dress shoes that SHE NEVER WORE! What a waste of $. I'm going to hand them down.
Well this day is dedicated to laundry and cleaning. Hope I can paint that wall upstairs today.

I totally agree with you. Yesterday I woke up and my daughter put her laundry basket in the hall so I went out there and I had 3 baskets full of dirty clothes. So I have been doing laundry for two days now and already there is more upstairs. What a pain. I know what you mean about clothes and shoes, my daughter just last year refused to wear any of her new school clothes I had bought her. She picked them out but she absolutely refused to wear them. I ended up giving them to our neighbor's little girl at least I get see someone wearing them. Wait until it is attitude instead of growth that is the reason she never wears something. It is frustrating. Thanks for the vent.

Gosh the attitude thing is already starting at age 3 1/2. I don't know what we are going to do when she turns 13! She's into a pouting thing now and talking back/fresh. Yesterday she had a lot of time outs cause she was just bad and NOT LISTENING. errrrr.

go to once upon a child and trade clothing in for cash, books or whatever! love that place- you must have one (it's a chain) or consignment like it...I bet they'd love to get your boots off your hands

Well Dh has been working some terribly long hours and I don't feel like I should complain so I keep it to myself but I just need to vent.... I've been semi-single parenting and also training a baby puppy and doing everything around the house and non-stop cleaning and feedings, and cleaning up after the puppies accidents, cleaning up DD and making sure she goes potty, forgetting to go myself, and errands and gym class and ballet/tap class and bill paying, and shopping and non-stop laundry and dishes and well the whole time just feeling ....well very unappreciated for everything I've been doing and keeping it all together. These long hours have been a very hard adjustment to our daughter and I've been dealing with the consequences of it and it's been tough. I know it breaks DH's heart to hear those things so I try and sugar coat it for his sake, but at 3 1/2 yrs. old she's been pulling out the not listening card and the "NO" card and the whinning....errrrrr. Frustrated and whooped.
So this weekend....I had about enough. DH was off for a few days so I took advantage. It had been almost two months since I got my hair cut....got that done on Saturday....WOW feel human again....Sunday morning got my butt up early and went on a horseback trail ride by myself and it was wonderful. So good for the brain. Then destroyed all that by going to the in-laws and dealing with mental anguish there... So today I went and got my eyebrows waxed. I plan to paint my toenails tonight and get geared up for DH to head back to work again tomorrow and another long haul of semi-single parenting.
My heart goes out to all you single parents! I feel for you and have the highest respect for all that you do. Accept all the help that you can cause you deserve it and need a rest for yourself.
I wish I had family close by so I could get a break during the week. DD needs a break too.
Thanks for the venting session.

I hear you. I was in that same boat for a month this summer while my DH worked insane hours. It is SO hard not having family close by to help out.

Let it go and vent yer heart out, that's what we're here for.
dustbunny responded September 5, 2007 at 1:02PM
somehow, if we had a paycheck at the end of the week, all the unappreciated work wouldn't be so depressing. that's how I feel- like I do all this and I can't contribute financially to the family...oh well. glad you got your hair cut...what a difference that can make. do you know anyone who you can kid swap with?
LatteMommy responded September 5, 2007 at 1:24PM
nope cause most of them are working Mom's and their kids go to preschool or day care. the one Mom I know lives a good distance away. The kids that I would have babysit are in school now and way too much homework afterwards and after school activities. I'm bummed. My girlfriend lives an hour and half away. I'd join a Mom's club but with our schedules it just doesn't fit....frustrating. DH comes home after his long day and is so whooped that he eats then goes right to bed. Doesn't even have the energy to play with DD, he's that whooped. I really hope they train these new people real quick and offer some relief to DH and US! it's just nuts right now.

hmm...that's rough. can you sign up for a part time chilcare spot? Mine are going two mornings a week...that way I can get caught up (yeah right)- I think I am going to love it...then you can go to yoga or for a walk, she can play and then you pick her up by lunch. worth some cash for sanity...if you can swing it...I shouldn't swing it but who needs groceries? I need quiet time...lol.
LatteMommy responded September 5, 2007 at 3:06PM
gosh Dustbunny, i wish we lived closer to one another. you and i could kid swap. we are so squeezed right now and trying to save for a house and OH trust me...thought about it and child care for a couple hours a week would be nice and i think DD would benefit from it too but going over the budget and even cutting out on all sweet buys, it's just not in the cards at the moment. DH tells me to hang in there and it will get better and slow down some. Seems never ending at the moment. Oui.
Uploading Pictures Trouble

I tried uploading a few photo's this morning and I keep getting an error messsge. Maybe it just needs a "cntrl., alt., delete" button press like my brain needed yesterday morning. :-\
Anyone else having those problems? I still can only create an entry, it won't let me respond, that is strange.
I know maybe it needs a Latte! /:>)
Hope everyone has a GREAT Labor Day!
