Break the normal rules. Throw guilt out the window, and try not to think about the things you're not getting done. Just relax with them, and make them your first priority. Big dinners or laundry will be there tomorrow or the day after too!

We are increasing the word limit on post comments to 1000, but seeing the detailed entries on one topic "Parenting Styles" is 1000 enough? What would you guys like to see?
Thanks for the feedback.

Hot Topic - how duties are spilt w/spouse?
Posted May 17, 2007 at 4:38PM by Sticky_Mommy I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!
Let me just preface that I don’t want this to get into a boy bashing, but I have a feeling that most of the Mom’s here pick up a majority of the slack when it comes to the kids & home?
How are duties split at your household?
When DH is not working (he’s freelance photographer) he’s at home with kids. He plays with them, feed, etc all day.
Dinner:
Maybe 2X per week he’ll make dinner for us (sometimes I miss dinner w/the kids b/c their bedtime is 6:30 & 7:30) and the other times it’s me cooking when I get home (hell).
Grocery Shopping:
Most of the time me with or w/out the kids
Laundry:
DH, and he’s an amazing folder
Clean up after dinner:
DH always does the dishes
Putting the kids to bed:
Me: 11 month old
Take turns on the 3 year old
Bathroom:
Take turns
Me: Scrubbing the tub
Cleaning the floors:
Nobody, but when it happens it's me (is it bad that our baby thinks the kitchen floor is buffet?)
Cleaning the toys & kids room:
Mostly me
rockergirrl responded May 17, 2007 at 4:42PM
dinner: me 7x week. Groc Shopping: me. Laundry: both. Clean up: both. Bedtime: we split the kids. Bathroom: take turns. Floors: when it happens I make him do it. Clean kids room: me.

Life is crazy but wonderful.
I'm like rockergirl, I'm home so it is mostly me. Although bedtime and bathtime is my husbands area, he has always done that and he did all the night time feedings when our son was a baby, he deserves a lot of credit for that one.
Misda_Sleep responded May 21, 2007 at 1:35PM
It would be great if we could shop for food online. Local shaws/hannaford are close to home but 1 trip for 1 item is always 20 min+ if I'm lucky...30+ at times.

Majority of the time it is me doing the cooking and cleaning...BUT DH helps out whenever I ask. I do the floors, bathrooms, beds, etc... But DH will help me with laundry, cooking, dishes, picking up. He does bedtime with our 3 1/2 yr. old cause that is there thing. I step up to the plate when work has beat him 1/2 to death & he comes home & goes straight to bed. Groc. shp. is either one of us or we go as a fam. Toy cleaning all me. I have ours clean her own rm. now & make her bed. She makes a mess SHE cleans it up. She stills runs & hides when the vacumme comes out. All & All - I think we share when it comes to tallying it all up. I'm lucky.

Cereal for dinner, what are you having?
Posted May 17, 2007 at 9:09AM by Sticky_Mommy I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!
Making dinner sux at the end of the day when I only have a 1 1/2 to 2 hours to spend with my kids before their bedtime and I don't want to be cooking the whole time! Last night my kids had hummus, apple sauce & carrots, my husband had leftovers and I had cereal - which is fine, but not more then 2X per week.
I am looking for quick, easy, low fat, with veggies, dinner ideas - any suggestions?
rockergirrl responded May 17, 2007 at 9:25AM
I think that is great. Americans eat too much at dinner time anyway. Feed the kids big breakfasts and lunches with snacks in between and a light dinner is all they need. Better for the bodies anyway. I have lots of dinner ideas but not enough room to put here. I will post something later.

pasta is quick. make it with in season veggies (squash, zuch, spinach, carrots etc) sauteed in a little bit of veggie broth and some oregano, & canned kidney beans, s/p instead of sauce. mix it in with your pasta and leave some on the side for the kids next to the past plain with butter & ch

Sticky_Mommy responded May 17, 2007 at 10:20AM
Oh rockergirrl, I don't know if I want to get into that...but that is what I think most of the time too. So you cook dinner every night?
vtmomof2 responded May 17, 2007 at 10:21AM
Burritos. They are quick, the kids love them and you can put anything in them. If we have leftover chicken or beef we make burritos or quesidillas, the kids get excited on these nights.
rockergirrl responded May 17, 2007 at 10:43AM
Yes. I don't always like it but if I didn't have dinner ready when he got home the kids would go to be so late. I guess I just figure that I am the one who is at home and I have more time (well sometimes) to get it ready before he gets home.
rockergirrl responded May 17, 2007 at 10:44AM
I second burritos. We have them weekly. Sometimes just bean, cheese & salsa, some weeks more packed with veggies and tofu. I make a HUGE batch and then it covers lunches for a few days too.

I've been SLIMED
Posted May 14, 2007 at 4:31PM by Sticky_Mommy I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!
My son is just starting to stand. Well not really on his own yet, so he uses what is around him as a crutch to help him get vertical. That could be his sister’s hair, a wall, the coffee table, my legs, etc.
And as most babies, his face is often covered in snot, food, drool, etc. you know slime in general. As I’m sitting at my desk I notice my lap has all sorts of crust on it – Ewwww I’ve been slimed! Ivan must have slimed me this morning and I’ve been walking around all day with baby slime on my skirt. Good thing I took a shower today so I’m not completely gross.

Throw up, Poison Control & Princess Ring
Posted May 10, 2007 at 9:50AM by Sticky_Mommy I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!
I really am a morning person, but this morning was a bit of a challenge.
As I was making breakfast for my daughter, I was holding my son. He was being fussy and wanted to be held and once I picked him up he started snuggling in. Very sweet until he threw up all over my shoulder and PJ’s. Yuck.
I put him down and wiped myself & him off. He seemed fine after that. I continued with the breakfast prep. Sylvie was showing off the new shoes I got yesterday for Ivan, “Look at your new shoes Buddy.” The next time I look down at Ivan, he has something in his mouth which I scoop out and it’s the packet of crystals that come with shoes. You know the ones that say, “Do NOT Eat.” I yell for my husband to call Poison Control (they’re on speed dial, very convenient). Come to find out those crystal packets are not toxic (Amen!).
As I’m trying to run out the door and hustle to work my daughter tell me she wants to give me something to take to work. I really try to slow things down when my kids want to share something with me, but I’m running late (as usual!). Mommy guilt over rides & I wait as she find the perfect treat for me – her Princess Ring. She slips it over my finger and tells me to have a “Good day and Drive Safe.”
Lesson learned:
I may smell like vomit, but in the end I have some very sweet & thoughtful kids and it pays to have Poison Control on speed dial.
vtmomof2 responded May 10, 2007 at 11:16AM
Thank GOD for poison control! I have had to call them twice for my son and they have always calmed down.

Sharing a Breast Pump??!!
Posted May 3, 2007 at 1:28PM by Sticky_Mommy I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!
I work in a small office of 25 people and I’m the only nursing Mom here. Yesterday the VP of Sales came by the desk and grabbed my black brief case looking breast pump case and said, “You Rascal. I’ve been looking all over for this.”
I turned to him and said, “Really? You need to use my Breast Pump?” Oh man, he turned bright RED and starting laughing. He thought it was the office projector.

It’s not a job it’s an adventure...
Posted May 2, 2007 at 3:37PM by Sticky_Mommy I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!
So I’m going on my first business trip since my Son was born 10 months ago. Things I'm looking forward to:
What I’m not looking forward to is pumping in the airplane bathroom or all the guilt I put on myself for leaving my husband with 2 kids and no relief pitcher in sight for 4 days. I’m trying to make thing easy by inviting my family over to friend’s houses for meals/playdates and preparing make-ahead meals while I’m gone. But I have to wonder, what if the shoe was on the other foot…would my husband (love him to death!) fret over what I was going to feed our children if he was out of town for 4 days?
Is it because I’m a control freak or a guilt ridden Mother?
rockergirrl responded May 2, 2007 at 4:17PM
blame it on the guilt ridden mother. for some reason as sweet and helpful as our husbands are they just always think the same way we do.
oneanddone responded May 2, 2007 at 9:39PM
No - your husband would not worry about what you would feed the kids while he was out of town - and neither should you. Believe it or not, men actually CAN take care of kids! The bigger question is what kind of boss would expect you to go out of town for 4 days and lea? Sounds draconian to me..
NCGirl22 responded May 3, 2007 at 10:17PM
I think you should treat it as a mini-vacation! No laundry, nobody asking what's for dinner?, no grocery shopping, errands, etc... Besides, it's good for them to miss you! Although, speaking as a bit of a control freak myself, I'd make a few dinners and playdates anyway..
meme responded May 4, 2007 at 8:56AM
I agree with VTGirl - treat it as a mini vacation. Your husband will muddle through - perhaps not the same way you would have but the difference is what makes life interesting. Give him a chance to prove himself.
