It’s not a job it’s an adventure...

Posted May 2, 2007 at 3:37PM by Sticky_Mommy
I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!

So I’m going on my first business trip since my Son was born 10 months ago. Things I'm looking forward to:

  • sleeping through the night
  • going pee all by myself
  • watching non-animated TV
  • wine in a real glass, not plastic

What I’m not looking forward to is pumping in the airplane bathroom or all the guilt I put on myself for leaving my husband with 2 kids and no relief pitcher in sight for 4 days. I’m trying to make thing easy by inviting my family over to friend’s houses for meals/playdates and preparing make-ahead meals while I’m gone. But I have to wonder, what if the shoe was on the other foot…would my husband (love him to death!) fret over what I was going to feed our children if he was out of town for 4 days?

Is it because I’m a control freak or a guilt ridden Mother?

blame it on the guilt ridden mother. for some reason as sweet and helpful as our husbands are they just always think the same way we do.

No - your husband would not worry about what you would feed the kids while he was out of town - and neither should you. Believe it or not, men actually CAN take care of kids! The bigger question is what kind of boss would expect you to go out of town for 4 days and lea? Sounds draconian to me..

I think you should treat it as a mini-vacation! No laundry, nobody asking what's for dinner?, no grocery shopping, errands, etc... Besides, it's good for them to miss you! Although, speaking as a bit of a control freak myself, I'd make a few dinners and playdates anyway..

I agree with VTGirl - treat it as a mini vacation. Your husband will muddle through - perhaps not the same way you would have but the difference is what makes life interesting. Give him a chance to prove himself.
