Hot Topic - how duties are spilt w/spouse?

Posted May 17, 2007 at 4:38PM by Sticky_Mommy
I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!

Let me just preface that I don’t want this to get into a boy bashing, but I have a feeling that most of the Mom’s here pick up a majority of the slack when it comes to the kids & home?

How are duties split at your household?

When DH is not working (he’s freelance photographer) he’s at home with kids. He plays with them, feed, etc all day.

Dinner:

Maybe 2X per week he’ll make dinner for us (sometimes I miss dinner w/the kids b/c their bedtime is 6:30 & 7:30) and the other times it’s me cooking when I get home (hell).

Grocery Shopping:

Most of the time me with or w/out the kids

Laundry:

DH, and he’s an amazing folder

Clean up after dinner:

DH always does the dishes

Putting the kids to bed:

Me: 11 month old

Take turns on the 3 year old

Bathroom:

Take turns

Me: Scrubbing the tub

Cleaning the floors:

Nobody, but when it happens it's me (is it bad that our baby thinks the kitchen floor is buffet?)

Cleaning the toys & kids room:

Mostly me

  Three is for me!

I have to say my husband is great with the laundry! But that is as far as it goes! Bathroom:me, Kids:me, Floors:me, Dinner:me...ect. But in his defense, he is out of town on business alot.

  Life is crazy but wonderful.

I'm like rockergirl, I'm home so it is mostly me. Although bedtime and bathtime is my husbands area, he has always done that and he did all the night time feedings when our son was a baby, he deserves a lot of credit for that one.

It would be great if we could shop for food online. Local shaws/hannaford are close to home but 1 trip for 1 item is always 20 min+ if I'm lucky...30+ at times.

Majority of the time it is me doing the cooking and cleaning...BUT DH helps out whenever I ask. I do the floors, bathrooms, beds, etc... But DH will help me with laundry, cooking, dishes, picking up. He does bedtime with our 3 1/2 yr. old cause that is there thing. I step up to the plate when work has beat him 1/2 to death & he comes home & goes straight to bed. Groc. shp. is either one of us or we go as a fam. Toy cleaning all me. I have ours clean her own rm. now & make her bed. She makes a mess SHE cleans it up. She stills runs & hides when the vacumme comes out. All & All - I think we share when it comes to tallying it all up. I'm lucky.
