Wouldn't it be great if babies came with instructions? It would eliminate so much guess work and save hours, no days, of research on how to take care of them. DS is only 7 months old and I already have some favorite things that we fretted over:
- Breastfeeding. He got it right away. The labor and delivery nurse walked over and just stuck him on the boob. He pretty much hasn't left it since.
- Sleeping through the night. If I had this one figured out then I would be rich (and rested). After purchasing sleep books from all camps and talking to everyone I know I still haven't a clue and neither does anyone else.
- Bathtime. I really panicked about this one while pregnant. How often do you bathe? Do you use soap? When do you apply lotion? I'm not sure why this one freaked me out so much because it ended up being one of the easier things to do.
- Solid food. aka poison. Or at least that is what the literature and doctors make us view it as. Introducing solid food was no big deal but now figuring out how to increase the amount and when is mindboggling. Can you tell this is where I am at now? I am obsessed with buying baby food. Every time I go to the store I stock up on more, heaven forbid we ever come even close to running out! I love finding the different combinations of fruit to feed but I don't think that DS even notices.
- Teething. I really shouldn't brag but we breezed through the first ones. A stuffy nose for a weekend and then, voila! two new teeth. I probably just ruined it for me for the next ones.
I only hope that all of the milestones end up being much less of a deal than we anticipated and that we can look back and laugh at how much we worried over nothing.
