Real Shoes

Posted July 2, 2007 at 9:30PM by cosmoblue

Today DD and I went shopping for "real shoes". She is currently wearing Isabooties everyday. Now that she is walking more I feel like she should have something more substantial on her chubby little feet. Unfortunately Pedipeds are all made of leather as are all Stride Rite shoes so that leaves us with Crocs, Payless, and Target. So anyway we were rtying them on dd and sh was falling down all over the place. The soles were too thick and heavy for her. I guess it is going to be a little while longer before she gets her first pair of "real shoes".

Her feet are probably better off being as close to the barefoot as possible than wearing cheap non supportive shoes as her first pair.

Hi CosmoBlue,
I understand your predicament, you want to make sure your little one has support but you shouldn't have to compromise your beliefs. I have a vegan friend who strugges with footwear often. I know that she loves zappos.com because there is actually a vegan section...
Here is a link to all the little girl toddler/infant vegan shoes. There are some great little converses and reebock sneakers that use NO LEATHER OR ANIMAL PRODUCTS. They would be supportive, comfortable and lightweight for your little DS. There is also another link included that I found with some more cute vegan baby wear. I hope I could help a little.

I completely know what you mean. I have had such problems finding shoes for my little one too. The one place that I have had some success is Baby Gap, believe it or not. Some of their tennis shoes are soft and not all leather. Maybe try there, otherwise sock feet or bare feet seem better than shoes that don't fit all too great!

I'm not sure this is going to help you with DD right now, but something you may want to keep in mind for the future or for yourself. Website: http://www.planetshoes.com/

They sell ecologically friendly shoes and there are several brands listed.
