How I Sent DSM into a Depression

Posted January 28, 2009 at 8:16AM by dustbunny
dishing the dirt, cleaning the chaos

I've caused irreversible damage by spoiling an experience and forever branding my child's mind with a bit of information he didn't want to know. Take Sunday night's episode- Inside the Actor's Studio is partly to blame.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41bmgiTSbfL._SX320_SY240_.jpg

DSM likes the Simpsons. He gets the complexities of the humor and he enjoys the cartoon. Great. Well, on Sunday, I happened to turn on the TV and Inside the Actor's Studio was on. The guests were a panel of seemingly unknowns until they started talking. I realized it was the Simpson cast. I thought, whoa, awesome...."DSM! Come check this out."

him: Whoa, that's Apoo? That's Bart? That's Moe?....(watching, watching) I CAN'T STAND THIS ANYMORE!

He left the room in tears. Afterward, I said, I'm sorry, I didn't meal to spoil your relationship with the show (he tivo's it and watches it every day).

He said, "It'll just never be the same."

So yesterday, I came home and the Simpsons were on. I asked him at dinner, were you testing it? And he said, "yes"...as his eyes welled up.

I feel pretty badly about this...it's like saying, "hey look, there's no Santa!" or something to that effect.

BURLINGTON PARENTS...

Sesame Street Live is here...tonight and tomorrow. I just bought tickets for the Wed am show!

Also, tonight, Flatbread Pizza is raising money for Mobius Mentoring. So, if you're out, swing by...$4 per pizza (I believe) will go to fundraising.

There happens to be a Sesame St. Show @ 7pm, so if you're feeling the winter blahs, this is a cool way to mix it up. :)

If you happen to live someplace else, check to see when the show is near you!

I tried so hard to win tx to this through the BFP. no such luck. I had to hide the ad in the paper today from the kids so they wouldn't see it.

GOOD MORNING MYBABY MEMBERS!

dishing the dirt, cleaning the chaos

I'm just giving a hollar out to everyone whe reads my posts. I feel like winter's got my cyberfriends hibernating--and rightfully so. Hubby thinks I'm a big whiner but I'm really starting to feel the seasonal effects of "trapped-in-house-with-3-kids" syndrome. Yes, I get out for work projects but I'm feeling like there is NOTHING to do. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there like a fun kid recipe you whip up occasionally? I'm so scattered that I need direction, lol. I can usually think of something but today my kids were rolling on the floor playing "steamroller" for fun. There has to be something better!

Anyone throw me a bone?

Much appreciation. Hope winter is treating you all well!

Good morning darling! Shall I post about blue twinkies? Snail trails? Or how about the fact that my neighbors that are moving today brought me all of their beautiful Margarita ingredients (a handle of tequila (the good stuff), mix and 3 things of rimming salt) because when they decided they weren't going to pack it, they immediately thought of me...

maybe your hubby could take you out to dinner and a movie? That could maybe cheer you up from the winter blues?

Even My Grandma Knows How to Harness Technology...

Posted January 16, 2009 at 11:05AM by dustbunny
dishing the dirt, cleaning the chaos

You know, I'm pretty low tech BUT I really like my internet. I'm not alone! We all use tech in so many wild ways- updates, beeps, blurbs, tweet, text to email, shop from phone...it's like, what would we do without it?

One person who takes her internet use to the next level is my 80-ish yr grandmother over in Sebastian, Florida. I get an email every single day of the year. It's rarely a hello or a "how are the kids?" and that's fine. In fact, all my cousins and extended family get one every day with a one word subject and a message that comes in loud and clear (AND IN ALL CAPS)

Like this:
Message From: Grandma
Subject: FRIDAY

GOOD MORNING.

text

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

A cutesy chain mail? A recipe? Nope...everyday, a different one: A Bible verse. It's her way of showing us all how much she cares. Do I read em? Don't tell her but not that often. Do I erase them? No...they're part of my unique inbox experience.

So, anyway, it's super cute and I thought you guys would appreciate that!

I think that's great. My mother sends me horribly cheesy Christian emails. I am constantly having to remind her that she's Agnostic...

8 Rock-Steady Resolutions

Posted January 12, 2009 at 8:34PM by dustbunny
dishing the dirt, cleaning the chaos

Hey Everyone,

It's a couple weeks into the new year and I'm wondering how your
resolutions are going. I've decided that starting the year on a
personal low (staying in sweats watching a movie marathon) meant things
could only look up from there. Turns out, strep throat threw me in bed
for another week and well, let's just say, I'm rested. I actually
enjoyed some of my quilted retreat and I owe my babysitter a massive
thank you. So, now, you wonder what will the new year bring?

Well, friends, here are 8 Resolutions Real-Life People Can Handle and Cherish

1. Water is your new bff for 09. Chug a full glass whenever you get the chance.

2. Take the stairs. Get your buns of steel by skipping the elevator.

3. Keep a journal. Try it. Pen feels wierd after technology. Doodle...draw...make wishes.

4. Park where the grocery-getters park...way across the lot. If it's cold, it'll put some zip in your step.

5. Set a goal...anything. Run a 5k, stop hanging out with toxic people,
eat at least one veggie at lunch for a month. Set a goal...stick with
it. Good luck!

6. Do yoga. Go online, watch you tube...do it free. Do it in your living room. Just down-dog-do-it!

7. Simplify your life with kids. Great book of quick ideas...definitely suggest every mommy use it.

8. Be a better listener- build trust and friendship into the new year.

Forget the South Beach Diet...Try the Strep Diet!

Posted January 8, 2009 at 4:21PM by dustbunny
dishing the dirt, cleaning the chaos

Just kidding. I went to the doctor today- I have strep. I haven't been able to talk much or eat hardly anything because my throat is practically swollen shut! Let's hope this is the kick start to that dreaded diet I've been whining about.

Too bad I already picked up a pint of gourmet sorbet (mango, tasty!) to go with my antibiotics and tylenol w/codeine. Not sure how I'll react to all the meds but I'm hoping the kids keep it quiet-- looking to milk this for all it's worth. Movies and naps, tea and "can you bring me another..." as much as I can until the pain wears off.

Peace!

first off, I actually feel really bad for dustbunny. It's not fun to see her sick. But secondly, its nice to get a break from all nagging! So please, milk this all you want!!!

Just kidding. I hope you feel better soon. I'll make sure to take care of you though... like bring you tea and flowers.

Hang in there!

oh you two....

I hope you feel better, we all had it last spring and it SUCKED! I also had it paired with a double case of pink eye. Unfortunately Brett was sick too, so there was no milking it at all...
