Breastfeeding

Posted July 8, 2007 at 5:14PM by handanmyl
Three is for me!

Last week I ran out of my stockpile of frozen breastmilk. There were 2 bags left, which was definitely not enough to get Mylie through the day while I was working, so I had to leave Jeff with formula in case he ran out of breastmilk. He did his best to stay away from the formula, but it was inevitable, he had to give it to her. She was reluctant to take it at first, but soon she took it just like the breastmilk. I don't have anything against formula, but it just isn't what I want for her. I pumped 4 times that day at work, but the next day the same thing happened. Obviously I am not pumping enough to keep her satisfied while I am away.  I will continue to pump while at work, but she will have to still have formula when I am away. She nurses only when I am with her. I guess that will work for her.

Just remember you are doing the best you can do. More than that since you have continued to pump. Every little bit helps. great job!

Don't beat yourself up over this. Trying to give breast milk exclusively while away from your baby is very challenging. In my experience stressing about it only makes milk production even worse. Keep up the great work!

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!

The Babes are so much better at getting the milk out then any pump. I've always had to use formula along with my mommy milk. Any mommy milk they can get is better then none!

Try these tips & see if they increase your suply:
pump after you nurse (I have a plug for my car!)
pump after she goes to bed
Fenugreek 2-4 capsules, 3 times per day (580-610 mg)
FYI - You have more milk in the AM

You are doing the best you can! Keep up the good work!

Hi! I struggled the same way you did. In the end, I just accepted that my baby was going to have to live with receiving both breastmilk and formula. So keep up the good work and just work with your body.
