Mistake in the morning

Posted May 24, 2007 at 2:20PM by mecjg

About 6 weeks ago I was trying to wake up my youngest (3 yrs) the same way I do every morning.  She has this little pink dog that she loves, so the dog talks to her every morning trying to get her up.  The dog likes to slide down her back.  Anyway....I, the dog starting to pull her arm to get her up and Catherine was having a great time.  We, I mean the dog pulled on Catherine many, many times.  Well Catherine started screaming (6:30am) and my wife ran up stairs asking what happened.  I played it down because Catherine sometimes gets a little cranky (red hair) but my wife (a physician) was thinking small fracture.  Now I am concerned and not feeling all that good about myself.

Catherined calmed down and we brought her to day care and in the meantime we got a docs appointment (11am).  We found out that I dislocated her left arm (I felt very small).  My doc said this happens all the time and that made me feel a bit better.  I can't believe I did this to my little girl, so now the dog does not pull on her anymore.  They are so fragile but so resilient.

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!

Oh no! I know she fine, but I'm sure you're still scared deeply! Next time have the pink poodle pull on her leg, something with a bit more subseance - wink.

Kids sleep in

Posted May 3, 2007 at 8:46AM by mecjg

No that I can get them to brush their teeth, get dressed with the racing game, I seemed to be having a problem getting one of my daughters out of bed.  This morning it was hard getting both out but that is rare.  Does anyone have any ideas on getting your children up in the morning?  They usually are in bed between 8-8:30pm and one of my girls has a hard time getting up.

maybe take a look at how active they are during the day? Is she over scheduled and just zonked by the end of the day? Perhaps try slowing life down a bit if this is the case? Other wise some kids are just heavy sleepers.

we tried getting our kids their own alarm clock...give them some sense of control...this works well with one of ours but the older two just ignore it so it is still a struggle....if you come up with some good ideas let me know.

I tried an alarm clock too - it took about 3 minutes for my daughter to figure out how the snooze works.. Now I'm the snooze button: Time to get up, come on, it's time to get going, ok - get up now or we are going to be late! I'm amazed anyone with kids gets to work on time!

Kids sleeping and the game is on

Posted May 2, 2007 at 10:02PM by mecjg

The kids are finally sleeping and the Red Sox are on.  They are currently winning in the 8th inning, but things do change quickly when watching the Sox.  I thouhgt they had last nights game won when Johnny P. came in to close but we lost in 10.  Anyways I am glad they are sleeping and I can see the rest of the game, it looks good at this point.

Oh, yeah....I will have to do the race game tomorrow morning toget them going.  I think I will win tomorrow so I am not called a loser again.

Go Red Sox!!!!!!!!!!   6-3 in the 8th.

How to get them moving in the morning

Posted May 2, 2007 at 9:54AM by mecjg

How do you get your kids moving in the morning.?

It seems that my wife and myself are always repeating our daughters name over and over in the morning saying "eat your breakfast, get dressed, brush your teeth", etc, etc.  I race with my two daughters (5 & 3) in the morning and that may come back and bite me.  This works, but of course I let them win until that one day both of them started taunting me and calling me a loser.  The next day I made sure to win but of course my two girls both said   " it is not a race daddy".

Daddy's can never win when it comes to their daughters!

I used to make a list (with pictures) of all the things my daughter needed to do before leaving the house. I posted it on the wall in her room and she'd check things off as she went. She liked being in control of what she did and when rather than having me tell her.
