How to not be eaten alive by bugs

Posted June 16, 2007 at 11:23AM by momotogo

Does anyone have suggestions for keeping the bugs at bay?  Prefer something that doesn't have DEET or some questionable toxic substance in it.  For us it seems to be worse in the late afternoon and swarming (ok that's a little dramatic) to the tenderest flesh. My guy seems hypersensitive to mosquito bites would love to prevent, but if anyone has a good suggestions for topical treatment, that would be appreciated as well.

I use Burt's Bees bug stuff. Nothing is perfect of course but it seems to help. And just keep them away from those high bug times you mentioned. My kid's skin react super strong to bites. I use After Bite for kids. The active ingredient is Eucalyptus oil.

  Life is crazy but wonderful.

Yard guard really works, it has the bad stuff but you don't spray it on you, you spray it around the area you are using. Also the off lamps really work well. For bug bites that are really bad I have used benadryl topical cream, it is an anti histamine.

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!

We just got back from the Pediatrics office & they said deet is fine for kids - any thoughts?

My feelings on deet products are if you live in an area prone to ticks (ie. lyme disease) use it. Other cases the Burt Bee's and Cal. baby are good. Happy Outdoors! Oh boy....mud pies, here we come!!!!! :)
