Fall Has Arrived!

Posted October 23, 2007 at 9:08AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

We have two huge maple trees in front of our house.  I have never seen so many leaves until we moved here.  We have already had two truckloads of leaves hauled away, luckily in our town the town comes and picks up yard waste.  This morning we woke up to realize that one of our trees lost a lot of leaves last night.  The kids were so excited.  Of course we still have a ton of leaves still in the trees. This is from two days ago.

 These are from this morning.

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!

Finally! When I got home from work yesterday DH & DK where in the back yard. Instead of my usual hugs when I got home, it was, Momma watch as they jumped in the pile of leaves. It was so sweet!

I'll some more pictures next week after we rake them into piles for the kids to jump in this weekend. The kids love the leaves, it is so much fun.

my dd got a DOLLAR for raking the neighbors leaves. She does a good job too. Can't keep up though. I like raking leaves but not every single day. I'd rather take pictures of them on the tree's!!! Fall is awesome. God is just showing off this year with all these beautiful colors.

Chores & Consequences

Posted October 8, 2007 at 11:59AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

This weekend I really needed some help putting folded laundry away, so I asked my daughter to put away her brother's clothes as well as her own.  I told her since this is her brothers stuff she could add another book to her book order through school.  This way she was being rewarded for her extra work.  Well, this morning I went upstairs to my son's room to get some clothes for him, and she had put his clothes in all the wrong drawers, she made a mess.  Before sending her off for this task I told her how to do it, there wasn't very many clothes to put away and she always does great job on her own clothes.  Now I don't know what to do, I had to spend 10 minutes rearranging the clothes.  Should I still let her get the book for her extra work or not?  I plan on speaking to her about doing a job well, she is almost 10 so she isn't little.  I'm not sure if I should take away the incentive I was going to give her for helping me out by doing extra work, or if I should give her the book and just explain to her that she needs to do a good job when she is given a job to do.  Advice, please?

I would still give her the book and explain. I just learned about a process of parenting where chores are not tied to rewards and allowance. They are instead called contributions. The idea is that children should grow up learning that all members of the family contribute by doing certain things around the house and money and stuff should not be tied to it. Anyway I found it quite interesting.

That is interesting. We have always functioned like that. She does chores and we expect her to do them because she is part of this family. This was above and beyond what we normally expect that is why I tried to offer an incentive for this one task.

I would still get her the book but do explain to her about doing a job well, the correct way and following instructions and the importance of it.
It's good that she helped out and did the chore but halfway done won't accomplish the full task and should be learned that in the future doing just half the job at hand won't make her Teachers, Professors or Boss very happy either.
i.e.: Doing half of the surgery won't help that patient much.
Now if I can get my 3 1/2 year old to understand that....LOL. She barely does anything she is told to do lately. Oh lovely 3's!

Latte, I always found that 3 was more difficult than 2. 4 is better.

Sad Day for SCHIP

Posted October 3, 2007 at 7:53AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

Today Bush will veto schip funding.  He has already isssued mandates that could, if the state didn't have extra money, through nearly 2000 Vermont children off from dr. dynasaur, and it would not have mattered if no other insurance were available to them, they would have to go 1 year without it before being let back on dr. dynasaur.  Think of that, how would you feel if your child were without health insurance for a whole year, and you had no control over it?  Today is the beginning of the real battle.  The senate is veto proof, but the house still needs a few more votes, please contact your congressional representative and ask them to override Bush's veto.  Also, please contact Governor Douglas and ask him to join New Jersey and other states in suing the Bush administration over his awful mandates that will throw children off from schip.  Bush is talking about controlling spending, lets remember that while republicans were in control, Bush did not veto one spending bill, and his Iraq war has cost nearly 600 billion dollars, I don't think 35 billion dollars is to much to ask for his own people, our children.

Do you have links so other people in other states can contact their Congress members?

http://www.house.gov/ All you have to do is either look up your representative or put in your zip code, the whole zip code 5+4. It will give you who your rep is.

I hate my clothes

Posted October 1, 2007 at 8:03AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

I really hate my clothes.  They are all old.  I haven't been shopping for myself in 4 years, at the very least.  I really hate what I have.  They fit, but are just getting old.  I usually use my extra money to make sure the kids are dressed nice.  I really need some new pants.  Mine either don't fit right anymore, or have holes, or paint.  What a pain.  Thanks for the vent.

I love old navy because their quality has gone up A LOT and you just can't beat the price. Their jeans are in the 20 -30 dollar range. You deserve it go and get a few things and feel great about yourself

I agree with smazzuo AND you are not alone! old navy & platos closet have good prices and fashionable style. another option- take out a macy's card (or wherever you want)and buy two great pairs of jeans and some pants- then put the card away and pay them off bit by bit...just a thought. you deserve a mini wardrobe lift...it is a real confidence and morale booster to have clothing that fits, flatters and feels like "you"...I think I need to go shopping :).

FOUR YEARS?! I'm reporting you as a bad mother. How can you take care of others when you're not taking care of yourself? PLEASE, spend some $ on yourself. Think of it as an early X-mas gift.

I feel the same way you do. I have been slowly trying to get new jeans and shirts but it's hard when money is tight and the kid needs things first. I tend to spend the money on dd and dh before i spend anything on myself....unless it's a latte of course....

I find it hard to justify buying clothes for me to, especially like at the momnet when money is really tight. Sometimes I feel better if I make things. My man is pretty good at buying me presents though, so I am really lucky.
