Graduation Day

Posted May 30, 2007 at 2:10PM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

Today my 3 year old graduated from preschool, well he graduated into pre-k, so technically he is still in preschool.  It was a nice ceremony, they had a cook out until it rained than it was moved inside and music.  The children sang and danced for the parents and received bags full of goodies with a certificate.  He is my baby and I can't believe how fast he is growing up.  He will be in kindergarten before you know it.

  Life is crazy but wonderful.

He was excited to get his bag full of goodies. After his graduation we came home and after his nap he woke up screaming, we had to bring him to the doctor and he has a really bad ear infection so the rest of his day wasn't so much fun.

Kids say funny things

Life is crazy but wonderful.

This morning while getting ready, my 3 year old son came into the room crying.  I asked him what was wrong and through tears he said "I have a crab in my ceiling."  I asked him again what was wrong and he said it again this time pointing to his foot.  It took a few minutes but I finally figured out that he had a cramp in his heel.  Even though he was crying I couldn't help but chuckle at his crab in his ceiling.

Life is crazy but wonderful.

So often this refers to children, but this time it is me.  I am off to college this fall, I will be a full time student.  I am so excited, I just got my financial aid packet and I am really going!!!!  I decided earlier this year to go back to college this fall to actually have a career of my own when my kids have all grown up.  I am excited and wanted to share my excitement with everyone!!  Yeah!!!!

Heck yeah! Congrats for you! My Mother went back to school when I was 11 and she was such a strong role model for me. I was really proud of her (and I still am) Good for you!

Bedtime

Posted May 23, 2007 at 9:04AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

What is the proper bedtime for a 9 year old?   My daughter has been hounding me to change her bedtime which right now is 8 pm.  She says all of her friends have no bedtime and go to bed really late after watching tv all evening, which she hears about at school.  She is telling the truth about her friends I've checked.  She knows no bedtime isn't going to happen so she wants it later.  The problem is that she is an early riser no matter what time she goes to bed and a complete grouch in the afternoon if she hasn't had enough sleep.   My question is am I being too strict?  Right now I have her get ready at 7:30 and have her read, color or draw or listen to music quietly for 1/2 hour until it is lights out time, which is usually about 8-8:15-ish.

At 9, my daughter's bedtime was around 8:30. Any later made for an ugly morning - she's not an early riser. Besides, the longer she stays up, the less time you have for yourself in the evening. I'm with you - early is better for everyone!

That is a tough one, every kid is different. My kids have not had a bed time for years. When they wanted to start staying up later, I would let them try it and if they could get up on time without being a grouch they could stay up later. I found that over time they were going to bed about the same

I am a huge believer in the need for sleep. In children and in adults. Children need parents support in establishing healthy bed times. I would say at that age a child still needs at least 10 hours of sleep a night. Just my personal opinion.

hey...my 8yr old is @ 9pm. He reads for 30 minutes every night & I let him stay up after that...he's never been much of a sleeper. Once he's out, though, he's out. Between 8-9 is a decent time...that's my 2 cents :)My neighbor, though, has hers down by 7:30! I know it's because her husband works fr

I think every kid & situation is different. But I read an article that says elementary school age kids need 11-14 hours of sleep each night! My 7 year olds get ready at 7:30, read or color quietly until 8:00. It works for now, but things may change as they get older.

The Green Turtle

Posted May 14, 2007 at 9:55AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

I have had a very productive morning, I weeded my garden, planted perennials, and watered my plants, I even started dinner in my slowcooker than I tackled the green turtle.   The green turtle is a green plastic turtle sandbox.  Over the winter it was covered with 3 feet of snow and when it melted we discovered that the cover came off just slightly, enough to allow melted snow to pool over the sand that was in there.  For weeks I have looked at my kitchen window at this sandy lagoon and asked my husband to please empty it so we could either put new sand in it or throw it out, for weeks I continued to look at it.  This morning I had had enough of this green turtle and with my near 4 year old, a 5 gallon bucket and plastic yellow shovel we headed to the green turtle.  After baling 3 buckets of water out we proceeded to shovel out 4 bucketfuls of wet, great sand castle making sand, than I proceeded to carry them up a hill to dump each bucketful.  Now, the green turtle is no more, the mosquito haven is gone and I have had my cardio for the morning.

I'm from Califorina and when I first read the your title I thought you were going to talk about a hippie bus that drives around to Greatful Dead shows! Now that I'm a Mom too, the green turtle takes on a new meaning. We too have a green turtle, but no sand.

Damn word max count! So my 3 yr old suggested we go to the beach and fill up the turtle with sand and then bring it back home to play. Which would be a less expensive option then going to ToysRUs for 10 - 50 lbs bags of sand. Plus I'd get my cardio too!

I have given up on the green turtle. It sits in the kids section of our garden and slowly all of the sand has come out of the turtle and ended up in piles on my lawn. Now the green turtle just sits almost empty next to a huge digging hole they have created in their digging garden spot.

Sticky Mommy, We Are Everywhere - I totally thought of the bus that used to roam up and down the west coast smelling of sweat, pot, and god knows what else. I was so excited to see who had the experience of taking their kids on it. Oh well, next tour.

These have worked for me: buying a large flatbread cheese pizza (healthy style) and cutting it into preschool size pieces...a large rectangular pizza can go a long way... hand-held, easy & kid pleasing! or mini bagels by the half slice w/veggie cr.cheese- OR roll-up sandwiches cut to bite-size

Giggling Children!

I like to listen to my children giggle.  My 9 year old daughter is swinging at this moment and she is going really high.  The higher she gets the more it tickles her belly and she just keeps giggling.  It always makes me smile!

Nothing like the laughter of children to soothe the soul. It's perfect. They are perfect. God bless 'em.

No wonder they say laughter is the best medicine - it's amazing how that will brighten your mood after a dreary day. It makes everything else suddenly seem less important.
