Temper Tantrum
Posted June 29, 2007 at 2:59PM by vtmomof2 Life is crazy but wonderful.
My mom runs a day camp here in Burlington so I brought the kids down there this morning so I could run some errands by myself today. My son had a great time well both kids did, but my son did not want to leave. He pouted when I told him we had to leave and say goodbye to grandma but when we got to the car oh my goodness that is when it started he had a full blown tantrum. He screamed all the way out of the parking lot, all the way to grandma's house. Of course because it is hot all the windows in the car are open and of course we hit every red light. He was screaming "get me out of here" "I want to see grandma." He was so loud people walking on the sidewalk literally stopped and stared at my car. I felt like saying I'm not hurting him, he just doesn't want to leave his playgroup. Oh, what an awful ride here. Of course now he is fine and happily playing.

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!
I know it's not funny, but I am laughing! Only b/c I've been in your shoes and having people stop and stare! Maybe you can't laugh today, but I promise you will be next week!
It's Friday!!

Couldn't agree more. The *yuk* attitude about vege's totally changes when they're involved in the process and can proudly say that they grew that. Plus, who doesn't have fun diggin' in the dirt?
rockergirrl responded June 28, 2007 at 5:53PM

My DD is just the same way although she cannot jump or speak yet. I don't remember that she does it until someone comments on how funny it is or what a good climber she is. Hence the monkey theme for her 1st B-Day party.

I don't know about you, but would count that as a date! Time alone without the kids = good times! I love weddings b/c it reminds me how much I love my husband even when we get on each others last nerve.
akinvt responded June 25, 2007 at 11:37AM
Sounds like a fun weekend! Alone time with the hubby is always a bonus and weddings are so much fun. I agree that they help you to focus on the roots of your relationship and forget the trivial stuff that tends to interfere. Plus you get to dress up and let loose!
cosmoblue responded June 25, 2007 at 12:17AM

They're quick aren't they! That aways happens to me that my kids do something in public to make me feel horrible or dumb. Like a stranger pointing out that your kid picked something off the floor & is eating it.

Oh my Gosh, I so LOL about the donut comment. You got make it work how ever you can. I sometimes drive 20 miles away so my DD (3.5 yrs) can go to the "fun zone" aka play area in the store so she can watch movie, color, etc & I can speed shop.Good Luck!
birdiehandmade responded June 22, 2007 at 11:39PM
We walk through the grocery store eating - it's like a chip marathon for the boys. It's the only way to keep them from running into someone or toppling over the shelves!

hmm...my son thinks juice is shampoo. maybe we should roll them around in the dirt just to see what will stick. then, dip them in the kiddie pool- that counts as a bath, right- hee hee

Awesome movie quote, Sticky....it's really amazing what kids will do. They constantly keep us on our toes and sometimes knock us completely off our feet with laughter. Do people who have small children live longer because they are laughing every day at the silly, wonderful things their children do?

The Bad Boy
Posted June 11, 2007 at 4:28PM by vtmomof2 Life is crazy but wonderful.
Have you ever seen a kid and just know what his or her life is going to be? I hate saying this because it is judgemental, but I can't help it. The little boy across the street from us has taken a shine to my daughter, well actually her swingset, and he has bad boy written all over him at the age of 9. I watch him play with my daughter closely because I don't really know him, but he even talks back to me and I'm a stranger to him. I know his mother and she is a really nice person so I don't understand it, it must be this is how bad boys get started.
Sticky_Mommy responded June 11, 2007 at 10:18PM
Oh boy...how do you handle when the neighbor kid talks back to you? How does good kids go bad? Is the boy watching his Dad and taking hints from him on how to treat others? Or do you think it's just how his personality is?
mpl11 responded June 12, 2007 at 7:40AM
We had a couple of kids like that on our street when my kids were younger. When one would come over I would find something to do outside, so I could see for myself what was going one. When they would start talking back and bully the kids. I would tell them we did not talk that way and send them home. I would tell them when they could play nice to come back. After a couple of times they stopped coming over. I also told the parents that any kids that come to my house had to follow the house rules, and if they did they could come anytime. I would trust your gut, and keep an eye on the boy.
vtmomof2 responded June 12, 2007 at 8:43AM
I think the problem is, he doesn't have a father, around anyway. I spoke with his mom before and she said she escaped an abusive relationship, I was happy she got away unfortunately I think it caused damage to her children. She is trying and I feel for her. I agree, I keep them outside and I watch closely, they are moving to Burlington which is 60 miles away so they will be gone soon.
Back to School . . .
Posted June 11, 2007 at 12:04AM by vtmomof2 Life is crazy but wonderful.
Well, after 10 years out of college I decided to go back to school and get my bachelors. I don't remember it being so hard just to register. It seems when I went last time I just signed up and that was it. Today I had to re-register because they lost my first registration. Every time I call they tell me they don't have me listed and it takes about 5 minutes of explaining before they say "oh there you are." And I know it is expensive but I have financial aid, last time they didn't ask about money; this time as soon as they find me they ask me how I'm paying. I didn't think 10 years was that long but it has changed. Wait until I start classes, that is of course if they can find me on their list.

Sticky_Mommy responded June 11, 2007 at 2:15PM
Keep at it! I think it's great that you're doing this. You're a great role model for your kids!
vtmomof2 responded June 11, 2007 at 2:59PM
Thank you. Every time I look at my daughter especially I remind myself I'm doing this for her also. She is at that age where she is watching me and I want her to see me suceed at this. I want her to know she should never give up on herself. She can do anything and I have to show her that it is true.
Kid's Music
Posted June 1, 2007 at 10:39AM by vtmomof2 Life is crazy but wonderful.
My son received a cd in his preschool goodie bag from The Laurie Birkner Band. His preschool teacher gave him a copy in his bag since she used the cd during the kids gym time. I have to say, I think it is the best kids cd I've heard. I really liked it, not just my son. It is really good music and each song has movements the kids have to do, which is why she used it in the preschool. Before every song he listens really close to see what it is going to ask him and then just runs and dances. He really likes it and so do I, which is a bonus.
Sticky_Mommy responded June 1, 2007 at 12:27AM
