Temper Tantrum

Posted June 29, 2007 at 2:59PM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

My mom runs a day camp here in Burlington so I brought the kids down there this morning so I could run some errands by myself today.  My son had a great time well both kids did, but my son did not want to leave.  He pouted when I told him we had to leave and say goodbye to grandma but when we got to the car oh my goodness that is when it started he had a full blown tantrum.  He screamed all the way out of the parking lot, all the way to grandma's house.  Of course because it is hot all the windows in the car are open and of course we hit every red light.  He was screaming "get me out of here"  "I want to see grandma."   He was so loud people walking on the sidewalk literally stopped and stared at my car.  I felt like saying I'm not hurting him, he just doesn't want to leave his playgroup.  Oh, what an awful ride here.   Of course now he is fine and happily playing.

I know it's not funny, but I am laughing! Only b/c I've been in your shoes and having people stop and stare! Maybe you can't laugh today, but I promise you will be next week!

It has been a long week but it is finally Friday.  I'm getting the kids ready and we are heading down to Burlington, they are spending the night with my mom and my hubby and me are going to the drive in.  I can't wait to have some alone time both by myself and with my hubby.

Life is crazy but wonderful.

I am so excited with my garden this year.  It is doing so well.  Last year I bought one strawberry plant and now I have 15 and more growing.  I have so many strawberries the kids can't keep up.  The kids love watching the garden grow and now I have peas that are almost ready to be picked and my daughter can't wait, she loves fresh peas.  This is the best part of summer!!

Mommy you're a jungle gym . . .

Posted June 27, 2007 at 12:21AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

My son thinks I'm a jungle gym.  He is always climbs on me; he has done it for so long and so much that I barely notice anymore.  Yesterday while I was on the phone he climbed onto my lap, stood up and started to jump and I didn't really notice until he started jumping.  I told him that I am not a jungle gym and he looked at me all cute and said "yes, mommy you ARE a jungle gym."   He is cute, but he is getting heavy.

My DD is just the same way although she cannot jump or speak yet. I don't remember that she does it until someone comments on how funny it is or what a good climber she is. Hence the monkey theme for her 1st B-Day party.

My Weekend

Posted June 25, 2007 at 9:46AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

I had a great weekend.  We had to go to a wedding on Saturday so we dropped the kids off early at grandma and grandpa's and we went to the stores.  Nothing big, but it was sure nice to do a little shopping with just me and my husband.  We were able to walk around without having to look out for the kids.  We did our birthday shopping for our soon to be 4 year old.  Even without the kids I still like shopping for toys.  I really think the best part of a store is the toy section.  After shopping we went to my uncle's wedding and it was nice to see all my aunts, uncles, cousins and just have a soda (I can't drink) and talk to adults.   It was a nice weekend.

I don't know about you, but would count that as a date! Time alone without the kids = good times!

I love weddings b/c it reminds me how much I love my husband even when we get on each others last nerve.

Sounds like a fun weekend! Alone time with the hubby is always a bonus and weddings are so much fun. I agree that they help you to focus on the roots of your relationship and forget the trivial stuff that tends to interfere. Plus you get to dress up and let loose!

Back from the Store

Posted June 22, 2007 at 12:16AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

Everything went smooth, the donuts worked perfectly.  I kept my daughter busy.  Everything was working until the end.  My son sitting in his car cart decided while I was paying, to pay a visit to some other little ones that were in the next lane, the only problem was that I did not see him get out of his car.   I got my receipt and pushed my cart towards the door and I hear "bye" and I looked down to see my little man walking casually towards me eating his donut saying bye to his new friends.  I never saw him, luckily he is watching me.  Moments like this really make you feel like a not so good parent.

Off to the Grocery Store

Today we are going to the grocery store.  It will be our first trip to the store with just me and the two kiddos since school got out.  I have a plan, my 9 year old is going to help me with the list and I'm going to buy donuts for my 3 year old.  I know it isn't great for him, but it keeps him quiet and he is a complete donut freak, he loves them.  Wish me luck!

Oh my Gosh, I so LOL about the donut comment. You got make it work how ever you can. I sometimes drive 20 miles away so my DD (3.5 yrs) can go to the "fun zone" aka play area in the store so she can watch movie, color, etc & I can speed shop.

Good Luck!

Not Enough Time

Posted June 21, 2007 at 11:15AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

Is it just me or there just not enough time in one day.  I know I cannot be alone in feeling this.  I work at home and with the kids home I can't seem to get anything done.  My hubby is working like crazy and isn't coming home until 7 or 8 at night, plus I have been homeschooling the kids during the summer at least an hour a day, not much, but it seems like I have a hard time fitting it in.  I just can't seem to get my routine going yet.  I think I just had a bunch of circumstances come together at the wrong time, the first full week of summer vacation,  my period, hubby working a lot of ot and it feels like pure chaos.  I think next week will be better, at least I'll be done my period.

Lotion

Life is crazy but wonderful.

Lately my son has been wanting to eat an apple every afternoon.  I was thinking I was doing a great thing by giving him an apple - a nice and healthy snack.  Now I realize why he wants an apple, he has been rubbing it in between his hands and rubbing it all over him.  He keeps saying mom I'm putting lotion on and without really paying attention I kept saying ok, until now I just realized his lotion is apple juice.  I guess it is bath time.

hmm...my son thinks juice is shampoo. maybe we should roll them around in the dirt just to see what will stick. then, dip them in the kiddie pool- that counts as a bath, right- hee hee

Awesome movie quote, Sticky....it's really amazing what kids will do. They constantly keep us on our toes and sometimes knock us completely off our feet with laughter. Do people who have small children live longer because they are laughing every day at the silly, wonderful things their children do?

Sunscreen

Posted June 15, 2007 at 12:01AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

Does anybody know a good sunscreen that is not greasy?  There are so many out there I can't seem to pick the right one.  Both of my kids do not like to have sunscreen on, I bought the spray one thinking it would nicer and easier to put on but my daughter couldn't put her arms down because it was incredibly sticky,  I admit I had to laugh at her standing there with her arms up saying it is too sticky.  My son who is almost 4 cries like I'm abusing him when I put sunscreen on him, I swear I'm surprised the police haven't shown up at my door after I finish putting it on him.  Any suggestions would be great since I can't seem to do it right.

The Bad Boy

Posted June 11, 2007 at 4:28PM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

Have you ever seen a kid and just know what his or her life is going to be?  I hate saying this because it is judgemental, but I can't help it.  The little boy across the street from us has taken a shine to my daughter, well actually her swingset, and he has bad boy written all over him at the age of 9.  I watch him play with my daughter closely because I don't really know him, but he even talks back to me and I'm a stranger to him.  I know his mother and she is a really nice person so I don't understand it, it must be this is how bad boys get started.

Oh boy...how do you handle when the neighbor kid talks back to you?

How does good kids go bad? Is the boy watching his Dad and taking hints from him on how to treat others? Or do you think it's just how his personality is?

We had a couple of kids like that on our street when my kids were younger. When one would come over I would find something to do outside, so I could see for myself what was going one. When they would start talking back and bully the kids. I would tell them we did not talk that way and send them home. I would tell them when they could play nice to come back. After a couple of times they stopped coming over. I also told the parents that any kids that come to my house had to follow the house rules, and if they did they could come anytime. I would trust your gut, and keep an eye on the boy.

I think the problem is, he doesn't have a father, around anyway. I spoke with his mom before and she said she escaped an abusive relationship, I was happy she got away unfortunately I think it caused damage to her children. She is trying and I feel for her. I agree, I keep them outside and I watch closely, they are moving to Burlington which is 60 miles away so they will be gone soon.

Back to School . . .

Posted June 11, 2007 at 12:04AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

Well, after 10 years out of college I decided to go back to school and get my bachelors.  I don't remember it being so hard just to register.  It seems when I went last time I just signed up and that was it.  Today I had to re-register because they lost my first registration.  Every time I call they tell me they don't have me listed and it takes about 5 minutes of explaining before they say "oh there you are."   And I know it is expensive but I have financial aid, last time they didn't ask about money; this time as soon as they find me they ask me how I'm paying.  I didn't think 10 years was that long but it has changed.  Wait until I start classes, that is of course if they can find me on their list.

Kid's Music

Posted June 1, 2007 at 10:39AM by vtmomof2
Life is crazy but wonderful.

My son received a cd in his preschool goodie bag from The Laurie Birkner Band.  His preschool teacher gave him a copy in his bag since she used the cd during the kids gym time.  I have to say, I think it is the best kids cd I've heard.  I really liked it, not just my son.  It is really good music and each song has movements the kids have to do, which is why she used it in the preschool.  Before every song he listens really close to see what it is going to ask him and then just runs and dances.  He really likes it and so do I, which is a bonus.
