My Grandma
Posted July 31, 2007 at 9:27AM by vtmomof2 Life is crazy but wonderful.
My grandma isn't doing so well. She has heart problems, and diabetes and it has caught up with her. She has problems with her feet and her heart is too weak for surgery, so it is just a matter of time. She has pulled out of some tough spots before, but I'm not sure this time. She is a fighter but diabetes may win this fight. It saddens me that we might be losing her soon, but I am also thankful I have had my grandma for so long, most people I know have already lost both their grandparents. My daughter is especially close to her great grandmother and I worry how she will handle it when she passes, I keep trying to prepare her since she is so ill at the moment. I'm not sure how to answer her questions, I have a strong spiritual faith so I explain it to her in a very spiritual way. I have too make some time to go and visit my grandma. I don't know how much more time we are going to have to visit her, but I guess that is true with all our loved ones.

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!
I'm so sorry about your G'ma. Tell her again how much you love her & how much she means to you. I'm starting to tear up just thinking my G'ma who passed a year ago in May. The "good" thing about diabetes is that you know it's coming and you can make time to visit and tell her all the things you need to.I know there are good books out there for kids and death...any one have any recommendations?

I am so sorry that you are going through this.......Just remember that she already knows how you feel. She knows that you love her. That is the most important thing for all of you.Go spend some time with her, but also make peace with what is about to happen. If you believe in God, then you know she is going to be in a wonderful place. A place that you will be together again someday. Until then, you will have a beautiful angel to watch over you.My prayers and blessings are with you.

I am so sorry to hear about your Grandma. Diabetes really sucks. I will keep your Grandma in my prayers as well as you and your family. I know what you mean about your daughter being so close to her and when that time comes how on earth do you explain it to her. I have that same fear with my DD and how she is so close to her GiGi. My Grandmother is more a Mother to me than a Grandmother and I can't imagine not having her in my life. I'd rather not go there.Last year (like Sticky_Mommy) I too lost my other Grandma and it tore me up inside cause I had already lost 11 yrs. with her due to my parents UGLY divorce. I still feel so robbed of time that we could have spent creating more special memories. I try to get over the bitterness and be very thankful for the time we did share and treasure those memories. I am still amazed to this day at how strong of a beautiful woman she was even in her dying days. She died at 91. Her death brought about something amazing in my life... An Awaking... to she people for who they really are... and what is most important to me... and to not let "mean" people stand in my way of being with my family cause they are the most important to me and spending time with them is what counts. You can never get time back.Treasure those memories...even write them down and share them with DD. Those are what make the tough times pass a little easier. I show my DD from time to time the crocheted things my Grandma made and pictures of her. Smiles then appear.I'm sending you a GREAT big hug and hope that knowing you have friends here will comfort you in some way. God Bless.

I am sorry to hear about your grandma. Definitely try to make some time to go visit her. My grandma and I are very close and she had a very close call earlier this month. She is 91 and so those close calls really knock the strength out of her. I hate how I have to "remind" myself to call her or visit and that I don't just do it naturally.

Bottled Water
Posted July 27, 2007 at 2:23PM by vtmomof2 Life is crazy but wonderful.
i was just reading an article that said that pepsi and coca cola are being made to change the labels of their bottled water to reflect the fact that the water comes from municipal water sources. isn't that crazy? here we pay for our water to our towns and cities and than we pay for it again except marked up and to a private corporation, and the bottles are polluting our environment. i really can't believe it is municipal water just purified a little more than straight from your tap. what a goldmine, turn on your tap, filter it, fill a bottle, put a pretty label on it and sell it. some things just get to me.
cosmoblue responded July 27, 2007 at 7:21PM
There are so many reasons not to buy bottled water and that is a good one.
LatteMommy responded July 27, 2007 at 7:33PM
we spend so much $ on bottled water, drives me nutty. we do this cause our city water has a funny taste and smell sometimes. no joke. don't like all the junk they put into it to make it clean and "supposedly" good for us. Our H2O report did ok but not great. we drink deer park/Poland spring cause we believe it is the best choice for us & like the taste. I think pepsi should be held accountable for misrepresentation of a product.
cosmoblue responded July 27, 2007 at 7:44PM
I recommend a good above/below counter water filter. We have one and love it. It was was pricy, but it tates great and so much better for the environment than throwing out dozens and dozens of toxic, non biodegradeable plastic bottles. My e spring filter and my Kleen Kanteen keep me beautifully hydrated.http://www.quixtar.com/products/thumbnail.aspx?pid=1982&ctg=2210
I think I heard (and I could be wrong) that most bottled waters are just glorified tap water. I second cosmo - the best thing you can do is buy a water filter for your home. Brita or Pur.

as i have blogged before we are going camping next week. i haven't been camping since i was a kid and i am feeling overwhelmed. i didn't realize you had to pack so much stuff. last night my hubby and i were talking about preparations and he said that i needed pans, and laughed at me when i was shocked, i didn't even think of pans, and i guess i will have to bring cooking utensils and pot holders. i didn't think of any of this stuff. i made lists, but they weren't on it. now i worry that i'm going to forget something and how am i going to fit everything. i have to go to the store and get stuff. my lists are getting longer and longer. i keep telling myself it will be worth it, it is going to be a lot of fun and it is our first family vacation.

I used to go camping with my now husbands family when we were younger. A good idea is swimming pool rafts to sleep on under your sleeping bag. The kind that are cheap, the size of a small twin size bed, work great! Let us know how it goes, we plan on camping soon as well and have not gone as parents yet lol.

Poopy Mess
Posted July 26, 2007 at 7:56AM by vtmomof2 Life is crazy but wonderful.
last night, while nursing my hurt "hip" muscle, my son came running into the house saying he had to potty, i said ok, he ran upstairs, nothing unusual. i heard the bathroom door open and than i heard him playing, i really didn't think anything of it. i could hear him that is usually good. my hubby came in and let me know that he had to poop. my son has been trained for about a year but wiping his butt is something he still struggles with, so i hobbled over to the stairs and asked if he was done. now usually he is done he just hasn't wiped or flushed, but this time he yells down in a panic voice "mommy don't come up here" of course this means i'm coming up there. about half way up the stairs he starts crying "mommy don't come up here" at this time i know something is wrong, i round the corner to see him sitting on the potty, crying, poop all over the bathroom and him. i ask him what happened and through his tears he says "i told you not to come up here" so seeing he is so upset i go over to him, watching where i step, i pick him up off the potty and put him in the shower and proceed to hose him down. i yell to my hubby to have him clean the bathroom since i can't bend down so well at the moment. the whole time i'm washing him up he is crying and i keep telling him that it is ok and trying to calm him down. apparently he was playing and didn't want to go pottty and ended up pooping his pants, he was trying to clean himself up without my knowing, which is kind of funny since the entire bathroom was covered in poop. so now i have a clean bathroom and i didn't have to do it.

He had a Starbuck's hot cocoa which seemed innocent enough, until he pooped his pants while we were trying to get back to the car! He had to ride face down in the backseat until we got home because everywhere short of home was a just a chaotic mess (not to mention our car!) Same thing, I had to calm my son down but now we laugh about it.

Political Phone Calls

let me say first, i am a political junkie. i love watching politics, i watch all the debates, speeches, etc. i use to hide the fact that i really like it but now i embrace it as a part of me i can hide no longer. with that said i do not like getting political phone calls to try and get money out of me. i figure i watch their debates, i put my sign up, i wear a button, during the season not yet, i write letters to the editorial page and i vote for them, i am not giving them money. they have more money than i will ever have and as of yet they have not done anything, i believe, to deserve even a dollar of my money. i just got a call and when i say no they just keep pressuring until i have to tell them why they are not getting any money out of me. i don't like yelling at them but i said no and they are not changing my mind. maybe if gas & food prices weren't so high i would be able to give them money is usually what i tell them. i also ask what are they doing to help middle class people, i mean really help, they never have an answer and i never have the money. seems fair to me.
there i feel better.

How do you dry the herbs. I'm like you have lots, but haven't found enough reasons to use them.
rockergirrl responded July 24, 2007 at 3:57PM
all three of those can be used in pasta sauce. Basil - make pesto, basil, tomato, moz cheese sandwhiches, caprese salad which is just basil, tomato and moz cheese (add a dash of balsamic vinegar) Thyme - add to pasta sauce, omeletes and scrambled eggs, bean dishes with hearty beans like kidney, pinto or black beans. Thyme should always be added to the end of the cooking.
vtmomof2 responded July 24, 2007 at 4:06PM
Oregano & thyme and I think sage (I just planted it this year so I have to look it up) can be hanged in a dark room and dried, once they are dry I crumble them into old spice jars that I keep for this purpose. Basil cannot be dried unless you use a dehydrator, but I usually freeze it in ice trays, I measure out a tbsp of chopped basil and fill up the trays with water and freeze it, that way you can add an ice cube to soups or sauces which is what I do, you can also freeze it in pesto sauce.

i was 11 when i started my period so i keep hoping she will be older since i had such a hard time with my period. i want her to wait as long as possible. i guess i really have no control over that. so i wanted to know if anybody has an older daughter when do they start being overly emotional?

This morning when my son woke up, he is almost 4, I kissed him on the cheek and he said to me "no kisses mommy" I said to him "I like to give my baby kisses" and he said "I'm not your baby, I'm your big boy and no kisses for a big boy." Well I guess that says it all, he is a big boy and he doesn't want mommy's kisses, well at least not this morning.

oh I am dreading those moments. My oldest will be 6 soon and so far I haven't had any reactions like that. I am sure once he starts school this fall it will start though.

That's why you have to send them away, so you can miss them! It sounds like she is having the time of her life. Ahh to be a kid again...
Thank you for the ride . . .
