Memorial Dolls

I just viewed the slide show (link at the bottom.) It's a pretty powerful. And no, this pic is not a real baby!

Article from 7Days Newspaper, Vermont by Leon Thompson

A Vermont Artist Finds Healing, and an Income, with Lifelike Infant Sculptures

ART (08.08.07)

PHOTO: KRYSTAL WOODWARD

Here’s a little quiz: Does “creepy, naked babies” refer to (a) an Ozzy Osbourne tribute band, (b) a review of Ann Geddes’ photos featuring infants dressed as insects, (c) a mixed drink that could blow away a Breathalyzer, or (d) none of the above?

If you said (d), you’re right. And you don’t win a thing, but read on. “Creepy, naked babies” is what Vermont artist Jennifer Stocks-Dearborn jokingly calls her eerily realistic — and rapidly selling — stock of polymer clay infants, which she sculpts in her Jeffersonville home. (See audio slideshow.)

that is freakin' weird. Not that she does it but that she calls them "creepy naked babies"

ok let me explain. I read the article first. I watched (or rather tried to watch) the video but I could not get through it. As a mother who lost a child in utero I found it very hard to watch because it brought back too many memories. What she is doing for people is wonderful. I am proud of her for finding a way to get through her grief. I just find the written article to have a different vibe than the video did and I guess the over use of the phrase "creepy naked babies" in the article just made my stomach turn a bit.

If they help, that's great. I would be more worried about transferrance......... I personally would rather do a memorial book or something.

I have helped mom & dads do memorial books before, and it is very theraputic to get out their feelings through their writings and pictures.

The creator is right, those babies look creepy.

It's very sad. The baby's look so sad though and in pain. I wish they could look happier and more at peace. That seems like it would be more comforting to those who've lost their little ones. Still a great idea. Art is very theraputic.
