I AM IN LABOR

Posted September 19, 2007 at 11:45AM in I'm Pregnant! by nadaplum | Back

Finally. I went to see my midwife on Monday and she said my cervix is 80% effaced and I am about 1 ½ to 2 centimeters dilated. How exciting. If I deliver this week I will be over 3 weeks early. The baby’s room is not finished yet and we still have a lot of things we still need to buy. My husband and I totally slacked on this pregnancy, taking our sweet time getting things ready. And now this little guy is ready to be born.

I still feel like we are missing something though…HELP! I am in total panic mode.

So far we have the following…

Crib

Bedding

Diapers

Wipes

Clothes

Car seats

Baby first aid kit

That is so exciting. Just don't get to freaked out. The baby could still take some time to come. The cervix starts to thin and dilate on its own before labor actually begins. Labor technically does not begin until regular uterine contractions opening and thinning the cervix. Some people walk around for weeks thinning and dilating without knowing it unless they get an internal exam. I am not trying to be a downer - just trying to help manage expectations. Of course it could also mean he could come much sooner too.

I do have some contractions; they are about 15-20 minutes apart. My midwife said this would be stage one of labor. And once my contractions are about 5-7 minutes apart, then I need to rush to the hospital. This is my second baby. I deliver very fast. Last pregnancy I went from being 1 centimeter to having my water break to having my daughter 3 hours later. So hopefully my water breaks soon:)

  Life is crazy but wonderful.

You're lucky, I walked around with contractions, and being effaced and dilated for 2 weeks for each kid. It sounds like you have everything.

That is great! Things are moving along then. I had super quick labors. Three hours tops was all I felt. It was pretty much like starting in the transition part though. Keep us posted and happy birthing!!

It worked for me, it's the cool feeling and not as harsh as an ice pack. Use fresh green cabbage leaves and cut a hole in each leaf for your nipples. Rinse and dry them before applying to your breasts and sliding them into the cups of your bra.

oh and if you can't go there with the cabbage (lol) they make great little nipple gel-pads that feel good....I mean, as good as they can feel in the situation :)

Nah I am not scared, having babies is a piece of cake...I am tired of being pregnant and I want my body back. I need to loose all this weight; it's driving me crazy.
