Stay fresh apples

Posted October 2, 2007 at 7:07AM in Easy and Quick Recipes by rockergirrl | Back

When I got my son's lunch box does not have room for a whole apple so I have to now cut them  into chunky pieces.  They usually turn brown soon after cutting though.  Here is a  quick tip to be able to keep cut up apples from turning brown.

Fill a small bowl with salted water.  After cutting the apples let them float in the salted water for several minutes.  Presto!  Your apple slices will stay fresh all day (if kept refrigerated).

  Life is crazy but wonderful.

I was going to suggest lemon juice or even lime juice, any citrus juice will prevent it from turning brown, and it doesn't need to be refrigerated.

  LatteMommy

I do lemon juice cause lemons are good for your complexion. We've been eating a lot of apples lately and using lemons to keep the brown away....but the brown apples look and taste the best in an apple pie! LOL. Gosh love Fall....apples, apples apples. DD has been eating one or two of them each day for a week now. Me too.
