I just came from my 20 week check-up. I had horrible "morning" sickness for the first 18 weeks of the pregnancy. And, my last month's check-up, I had only gained 1 1/2 pounds. I was barely eating. Well, I knew I was feeling better, but I didn't think I was over-eating. Since last month, I have gained 12 pounds.
First, my doctor starts telling me I should consider trying Tums if I'm not feeling well, rather than eating more food. He just assumed that's what I was doing. Then, he looks at my chart, and says "Ah, if the starting weight you gave us was correct, you've already gained enough weight for a full-term pregnancy. So, you'll need to really slow down on the weight gain."
The funny thing is, this is the only pregnancy I have not been trying to calm the nausea with more food. I have NOT been eating junk, or eating around the clock. I've actually been eating TONS of fruits and vegetables, and I think I've had maybe 3 sweet treats in 2 months. I really thought I was doing well!
To make it even more painful, while he was checking for the baby's heartbeat, he looks at the size of my belly, and says "how many weeks are you? Your belly doesn't look like you're 20 weeks yet." So, in other words, I've gained 12 pounds in my butt and thighs, is that what you're saying doc?
