Thanksgiving Tips Contest

Posted November 16, 2007 at 3:49PM in Domestic bliss - organization and tips by Garcia | Back

The Best Thanksgiving Tip I could ever give you:

It's not about the turkey, it's not about the stuffing, it's not about the mashed potatoes, tt's not about the sweet potatoes, and it's not about the homemade cranberry sauce.

It's not about how clean your house is, or house nicely decorated your house is, and it's sure not about who has the most creative placeholders...

It's about being together with those you love and giving thanks to God for what you DO have, not whining or worrying about what you DON'T have - remember, there is ALWAYS someone who is worse off than you - no matter HOW badly you think you may have it.

And while your giving thanks, stop and remember the thousands of families who WON'T be together this year... the thousands of men and women that will be spending their Thanksgiving without their loved ones, in service to their country, in places like Iraq and Afghanistan... and they may very well be spending their Christmas and New Year's there as well... and some of them may never return home.

So, my tip is this, put down your dust rags, vacuum cleaners, craft projects, turkey basters and aspirations of being the next Martha Stewart... that's not what it's about at all.

  Smile Every Chance You Get!

Yeah... however, that turkey and stuffing will smell so good coming out of the oven to a clean, well set table to share with the most beautiful close people who you love.
Too bad we're having this war. It would be great for those young people to be with their families where, no doubt, their tables would be well set in their company. Viva Martha Stewart! Gotta love her... and Oprah... oh and Dr. Phil... and the forces... It's good to give thanks.
I am so grateful for my Mother always having made sure that our Thanksgivings growing up were so beautiful. She worked so hard to have the table set so amazing and to make sure all of us were there to eat together and share our meal. She cooked and cleaned and those are some of the days I remember the very best. My sister would go with my brother to take the wishbone outside to see who could part it with the bigger side. It became sort of traditional for them. He's since passed away. He hated getting together at the holidays with everyone and usually came drunk... but he was the best part of our Thanksgiving and we haven't had a good Thanksgiving Dinner all together as a family since his death. That's just the way it goes sometimes.
