Tips from Children watching Television

Posted November 28, 2007 at 6:33AM in Discipline - Suggestions and Tips by jasmin | Back

Do Children love to watch Television

Limit television viewing to 1-2 hours each day.

Never  not allow your children to have a TV set in their bedrooms.

Review the ratings of TV shows that your children watch.

Watch television with your children, and discuss what is happening during the  show,  discuss alternative and more acceptable things that characters could have done for inappropriate behaviors and actions, and teach your children to be critical of the messages that the media sends through their programming.

This makes you to interact more with your children and know their likes and dislikes.

Here are some shows that can be watched:

  • Sesame Street
  • Barney & Friends
  • Mister Rogers' Neighborhood
  • Bob The Builder
  • Bear in the Big Blue House
  • Arthur
  • Dragon Tales
  • Clifford the Big Red Dog
  • Rollie Pollie Ollie

It is useful for me.

Always Good idea to limit TV. I have serous issues with Sesame Street. They touch on too many controversial issues. It's forbidden in our house. So different from when we watched it as kids.
Clifford is wholesome. Arthur is border line and come on Barney just gets under my skin after a while. After 16 years my Aunt still has the song playing over and over in her head. TV is very limited in our house except for the Food Network. It's entertaining, educational, beneficial and most importantly CLEAN TV!!!! No swears, No adult content, No nudity, No violence. Good clean learning TV. Our dd loves Rachel Ray and Paula Dean. Because she watches that she is SO eager to help in the kitchen. She gets excited to go to our neighbors house and bake cookies with her during the Holidays. I sit and read books with DD as much as possible. I find she loves to sit and look through her books and pretend to read or tell a story based on the pictures she sees. 3-4 is a sponge age. Everything she hears comes right back at us.

I personally cannot stand Arthur. They use the words stupid and shut up way way too much for my liking.
