i need more ME time...

Posted February 22, 2008 at 12:08AM in Finding a balance and time for yourself by puamama | Back

we practice attachment parenting and I love it for the most part, however, my 22 month old dd is a barnicle on my side.  She never is away from me even when I go to the bathroom.  When my husband comes home from work she'd rather be with me so he does something else.  I need me time.  I need to do it before i go completely insane.
Any ideas on how to get more me time?  I don't have family to help and we can't afford to pay anyone.  I've tried to set up trades with friends with toddlers but it never seems to work out....

You need to take some time at night or on the weekends when you can leave your child with your husband and actually leave the house. Go shopping, yoga class, sit in a coffee shop or whatever. Just escape for an hour. It will help.

Rockergirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl hit it on the head again!

I worry she is holding onto you because she does not know the difference between you and herself. She needs to know if you leave, you will come back. I know it isn't attachment parenting but if you need the time - and my gut tells me you feel guilty for wanting it, nevermind taking it - try this:

Next time dad is around, go to the potty by yourself with the door closed just for a second. She will cry, but just try it for a second. Then, open the door. She will recover because she learned, "when mommy goes away, she comes back to play." In no time you'll be enjoying those cosmos with the girls with no baby and no guilt ;-)

Maybe not what you're looking for, but I think it's best for your baby if you take care of yourself, too - actually, first!

Peace.
