So, Call me anal rententive but, I totally gutted my linen closet last year. But it's been so easy to maintain that we've actually kept it up for an entire YEAR!! So here's what I did.
1. I used see through tupperware shoe boxes with lids that stack nicely on each other. (This lets you take advantage of all the unused vertical space in closets..)
2. I created a label for each one based on my needs, but here were my catagories:
- Cold Box (Nyquil, cough drops, etc)
- Tummy Box (mainly our huge supply of Prilosec)
- Boo Boo Box (band-aids, bactine, etc)
- Everyday box (our stash of toothpaste, deodorant, razors, etc)
- Summer box (sunscreen, bug spray)
- baby box (baby first aid kits, shampoos, etc)
- Travel box (travel sized goodies)
- Spa Box (this one is mine: bubble baths, oils, nail polish, etc)
- and last but not least, my favorite, the Guest Box (this one has tooth brushes, soap, contact solution and even condoms...anything our guests could possibly need. I used a prettier box for this one, so when they come to town, all I need to do is pull out the box leave it in their room for them!)
3. I put the labels on the box, filled them with corresponding goods, and stacked them in my closet. I put the lesser used boxes on the tall shelves, thus reducing my need to pull a chair over to take things down.
4. Then I got two larger basket like bins with out lids. One is for my restock of tall items like shampoos and lotions, and one is a catch all for items used everyday like my hairdryer, brushes and make up bag. This helps keep my bathroom clutter free because there is a place for everything after I use it in the morning.
5. Last, I have a tupperware drawer system with two pull out drawers on the bottom of the closet. The top drawer holds 12 rolls of toilet paper, and the bottom drawer holds items such as light bulbs, batteries, and anything else bathroom related that you run out of on a daily basis.
This organizational system cleared off two whole shelves for just linens! It was amazing! And, yesterday when I sliced my finger open on a box of tin foil, my hubby knew right where to go find the band aids and bactine!
Good luck!!
