Fun Activity - Fruit Prints !

Fruit is an important part of your growing child’s diet, and a fun way to introduce this food group to your child is through art.

The Food Guide Pyramid suggests that children eat three to five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. While it may seem like it's a battle to get your child to try or enjoy any produce, don't despair. It can take up to 10 times before a child starts to like a new food.

One way for your child to discover fruit in a fun way is through art. When doing these cool craft projects, be sure to have a bowl of fruit for eating on the table.

Berry Painting
This one can be messy, so have your child wear old clothing!

You'll need:

1/2 cup berries (raspberries, blackberries or blueberries)
1 teaspoon vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon water

Place the berries in a colander over a small bowl. Press them onto the bottom with a fork until you get about 3 tablespoons of liquid from them. Add the vinegar, salt and water. Stir to combine.

Cover the table with newspapers and allow your child to use the liquid to make pictures on white paper using cotton swabs, paintbrushes or his fingers.

Apple Stamps

You'll need:

Apple, cut in half
Paints
Paintbrush
Construction paper

After cutting the apple in half, have your child paint the cut surface with his favorite color of paint. Help him press the apple onto the paper like a stamp to make an apple print. Help him cover his whole page or give him additional paint to enhance his design.
