Bringing home baby...kinda

Posted March 28, 2008 at 11:28AM in Parenting General by dvd1711 | Back

Today, my 15 year old son is bringing home a baby. Well, it's a homework assignement. He is bringing home a programmable baby doll that he has to take care of for the weekend. He so excited - NOT! But his mom is really excited. She can't wait to see her grandchild. This is going to be a very interesting weekend. I'll post again here with the results on Monday. Pray for me...lol.

Peace.

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!

So are you a proud Grandpa? Or thankful they have this experiement in school?

Well, it's over. It was interesting how badly my son did not want this assignment. When I raised my daughter through teenage life I read this book, "Get out of my life, but first could you drive me and Cheryl to the mall?" It was great. I think my son was so upset because in teenage years they want to be independent yet, they like the security of parents being there to care for them. This exercise reminded my son of the idea that he is still dependent for care. My niece was the same way. She had the assignment a couple months ago and hated it.

I think it is a good exercise, but not to fight teenage pregnancy. I don't think he thought of that as the point. I would have to ask him - right, like he'll talk about it - but for my son it was more of just a pain in the butt and something he didn't want to do. He learned he is not ready to take care of himself quite yet, nor is he ready to care for a baby - he said he will never have kids. We'll see.
