"no daddy" stage, how long does it last?

Posted April 14, 2008 at 1:31AM in Ages and Stages by puamama | Back

My dd just turned 2 and is a happy, fun loving toddler with so much love to give, however recently she says, "no daddy" every time my husband tries to hug her, change her diaper/take her to the potty, play with her, etc....
We try to explain gently and simply that daddy is showing his love and loves helping her and spending time with her but she's not having it.

Can anyone relate?

thanks.

Goofing around with my babies - Big and Lil

Well this is a stage that toddlers go through wherein they expect mama to help them with everything routine. They see dad as a friend or play mate. My husband is going through the same phase right now with my son who is 15 months old. They will grow out of this soon.

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!

Heartbreaking. I've been on both end, where my daughter only wanted my husband, or only wanted me. It suck being on the rejected end. Has he been traveling a lot? I know my DD wants me more when my DH is traveling.

I've tried spending one on one speical time out of the house, just the two of us and that helps. But it's hard not to get crushed, just remind Daddy too that she loves him and this will pass.

dishing the dirt, cleaning the chaos

hi,
yes...I agree with the other comments -your daughter will grow out of it. at some point she might favor hubby over you and then switch back again...good luck! it's a never ending flip-flop isn't it? one issue now, then another later than something else...ahh. they don't tell you this beforehand :) or maybe they do but we didn't get it

It is a stage that lasts until girls hit about 3, then they are all daddy, and mom might feel left out.
