1st Birthday Party Panic

Posted May 25, 2007 at 5:10PM in Share your Photos by cosmoblue | Back

My DD's first birthday party is just a couple of weeks away and I am panicing. We went to the fabric store to pick out fabric for the dress that I am making her because I had to have monkey fabric. Now I have to find time to sew it and make the goodie bags which includes sewing them and finding the stuff to put in them. I have to get decorations and decide on a menu. I am also trying to get some photos taken, make a DVD of her first year, and send packages home to our families back east. Did I mention that I decided that I have to have a matching/coordinating top to go with her dress. Why am I doing this to myself? The answer is that this is my party to celebrate surviving the first year of being a mom as well as her birthday party. Also this is probably the only year that she won't have an opinion of what she wants and I get to decide the theme and everything. I just wish I had not procrastinated so much.

wow good luck with all of that. I too made my own goodie bags the first year and stressed too much for my oldests 1st birthday. My advice. Do not over do it. They get very overwhelmed at that age. You are right that the first few years the celebration is more about you but just don't make it too stressful for yourself or her. You both deserve to have a wonderful (and calm) celebration. Good luck with it all. I bet it will all turn out great.

For our oldest son's first birthday, we were on vacation in Costa Rica with a bunch of friends. I wanted to do something special, so we all went out for dinner, and my husband and I had the restraunt make a few cakes and pies to celebrate. By the time the cakes came out, my son was sound asleep in his backpack. Oh well! We certainly had fun. (And we have a wonderful card that our friends drew for him framed and hanging on the wall, so he can remember it that way.)But I salute you for making this a wonderful day for your daughter, and you - it is your day. Congratulations on making it through year #1!
