Like all moms I've begun to think that my son is a genius. I don't know
if I'm overreacting but I've begun to feel so. Often he behaves in a
way I never expect a 15 month old baby to do. Do all children react the
same way ? Do all mothers feel the same way?
This is what he did for me to feel so:
- When I bought a potty to toilet train him, I expected
that it would take me a couple of weeks to get him to understand what
its was for. On the first day, I took him to the bathroom, told him
that he was supposed to pee and poop in the potty and made him sit on
it. I wore a stern expression because I expected him to try to get up
and walk away. But to my surprise, he did as he was told. In fact since
then, he has used the potty without the slightest fuss according to the
routine that I have set. A day or two after I first showed him the
potty, he came to me and pulled me to the bathroom. I could only think
of putting him on the potty when me pulled me with such urgency. And
yes, he did it! Amazing isn't he?
- Quite early my son started using remotes and phones as
his gadgets. He knows that he should put the phone to his ear and make
talking sounds. He also mimics me texting. He is fascinated with
anything with buttons on it. I can't understand what the deal is with
baby boys and gadgets.
- This morning when I woke up I noticed that I had
carelessly left his baby lotion on the bedside table. But when I later
looked for it I couldn't find it. I looked all over for it and finally
found it in the low cupboard where I usually keep it. After my husband
denied putting it away, I realized that it must have been Ben who put
it away. Observant isn't he? He once did the same thing with his shoes.
- He figured out to open the lids of most bottles by
himself before he turned one. Now its a constant race to make sure he
doesn't get hold of a bottle full of some lotion or other.
- He loves to open the taps in the bathroom. Likes to check on drains. Is he a future plumber?
- This morning he also opened the microwave and closed
it by standing on his tip toes. Thank God he is yet to operate it. But
soon he will I know.
- He knows that when you take lotions, you're supposed
to rub it with both your hands and then apply on your body. And he also
knows that you have to sprinkle talcum powder and then spread it with
the powder puff.
- The kitchen cupboards are all easy for him to open
now. He takes stuff out to play with and its so cute to watch him put
back each item in its own place.
- If he is given a toy that moves or makes a sound, he
will first find out how it works. For example, if he is given a car, he
will check its wheels, the way it moves and the way it is switched on
and off. Oh my, what a little engineer he is!
I'm sure that I shouldn't get so excited by every little thing that he
does. Do you think that any of this is unusual? Or am I just a typical
doting mom?
