coffee talk: has your kid shocked you in public?

dishing the dirt, cleaning the chaos

Mine have!
I remember a lovely time at the grocery store we were shopping and I saw a "very short person."No sooner had we passed him by when my son yelled,

"MOM! You have got to see this guy! No, look! Right there! He's super squishy! Can that squishy guy talk?"

I was MORTIFIED. I gave the man an apologetic look but I was literally speechless. We hauled out of that aisle SO FAST.

How about you? Any politically incorrect moments of horror?

My son was 3 at the time...

Oh yes. I never had any with my oldest son my littlest has done this to me several times. One of the most recent is we were waiting at his brothers school to pick him up and a woman came out of the school and passed by us. Just as she did he said "Look mom she is fat". I was horrified that he would come up with this on his own. We never talk about people being fat or skinny.

Guess what? It happens at the other end of the age spectrum as well! My Dad (who has Alheizimers) watched my somewhat overweight sister-in-law go up the aisle at church and said (loud enough for the whole congregation to hear) "That's a big one!" So I guess no matter what the age, family can embarass you and there isn't much you can say or do about it.

sleep will not come, but dreams will not fade

My nephew did that to me once when he was about 6. We were at the trolly stop waiting for his mom to meet us, and danny looked over at the man sitting next to me, nodding as he tugged on my arm "Aunt Jen, now that MUST be a bum!"
