9th month n sleepless nights goin steady!!

Posted June 4, 2008 at 1:56PM in Discipline - Suggestions and Tips by advaithasmom | Back

Advaitha makes my world go around!

My 8 month old wakes up every hour or two at night ( 3 hours if i am lucky), nurses n sometimes starts playin to my horror!!! she wont get back into her crib also. she takes 3 naps of 30-45 mins during day, and if I tried to skip one or delay she bursts out!!and she wont sleep herself too. She will cry for an hour or two if she was left to self soothe.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a baby. My youngest kid didn't sleep through the night until he was two. If she is up enough that she wants to play then I would say it is because she is sleeping too much during the day. I would try to get her on a two nap a day instead and make sure the afternoon nap isn't too late in the day. It will be hard to change at first and she won't be happy about it but it will be well worth it. Also look at what time she is going to bed. If she is napping too much during the day and then going to bed at night too late that right there could be the reason. It will take some time to readjust it all but two naps and a bedtime at 7:00-7:30 and over time I bet it will help.

  Diggin the motherhood gig

I can sympathize with you. My daughter is 13 months and its hit or miss. I understand how frustrating it is to let them "cry it out" when they can just go on for hours! I am so tired most nights I will bring her into bed with me just to get some sleep. I have a bunch of soothing crib toys and a sounds soother. I try to everything I can to make sure she is comfortable. Is her diaper really wet at night? Is it possible to not nurse her at night? She may be expecting it.

u r so right!!!! i bring her into bed too sometimes! but now she has become this clock sleeper that can no more fit into our queen bed..(unless we kicked daddy to the couch lol!!)so i have to be next to her crib, lean on to reach for her , hold her down with both my hands (otherwise she would keep standing for hours :( ) keep singing n patting her and after she is deep asleep i need to hush to my bed..atleast thrice every night after nursing..it is sooo tiring..keepin my fingers crossed for the miracle to happen sum day!

sleep will not come, but dreams will not fade

I feel you mommy! My son is 15 months and shows no signs of sleeping through the night any time soon. I agree with rockergirrl about too much sleep during the day. What seems to be working alright over here is one long nap during the day, and we've changed up the bedtime routine. Now instead of puzzels and soothing soothing down time, we toss in an hour of tag and chase the baby before story time. It helps most nights to help him expend that last burst of pent up energy.

eliminate two of the daytime naps in favor of one longer nap during the day, and stop nursing her at night when she wakes up. I think she has grown accustomed to the attention, Isn't tired enough for sleep at night, and she can probably sleep through the night without another meal.

Of my 4, 2 were good sleepers and the other two were not. We co slept with my 3 younger ones because thats what got "me" the most sleep. But if you don't practice co sleeping and don't want to start, I would suggest the same as Diana. Try cutting back on naps and see if a new bedtime routine may make a difference. Is she teething? Sometimes teething or growth spurts will have them waking at night and sometimes its just who they are. I was always a light sleeper when I was younger and I think two of my kids are like me....restless sleepers. Hoping things settle a bit and you and your little one are getting more sleep by now.
