TANTRUMS!!! (aka Angry baby syndrome) ;o)

Diggin the motherhood gig

We all have been through at least a few....TANTRUMS!

My 14 month old has been exploring these emotional explosions for just a few months now, each time esculating in duration and pitch.

Today for example, she was playing with a small bottle of bubble solution and it started to leak. She seemed to enjoy the taste to my surprise so I gently asked if I could have it and took it away. Well she shrieked and screeched and turned purple! Worst part was that she was also fresh from her baby pool and needed a dry diaper. Well the kicking and squirming came at this point, and I was trying so hard to keep her on her back as gently but effectivly as possible.

Anywho- after distracting her and holding her tight and saying how angry she was to her and why, she eventually turned back into the sweet playful baby she is.

So I am just thankful I as home and not at Walmart....like last time, when I had to check out and hold her at the same time.

Any Tantrum tricks?Stories? 6 o clock news clips? ;o)

I think it sounds like you did the right thing and my hat is off to you for getting through the check out and handling a tantrum successfully.

My story is when my oldest daughter(A) was 7 1/2, my second daughter(K) was just under two, and I was about 7 months pregnant with my third. I had to take both girls to K's dr. appointment which I didn't want to do because K always cried. As A has brain injury, she has a hard time regulating her mood and could not stand a lot of noises, such as the crying of a younger sibling. Everything was going ok until the nurse came in. K thought she was going to have to have a shot and the crying and screaming began. The nurse was trying to talk to me as K was screaming. Shortly after that, A began getting upset and started yelling at K to "STOP IT" "BE QUIET YOU STUPID BABY!" I was mortified because we do NOT allow the word "stupid" in our house. But as K was screaming and A was yelling, I couldn't deal with the use of the "word" until we arrived home and we all calmed down. Everyone else thought it was funny when I told them about it but they didnt' have to deal with it. lol.
