Women's Rights

Posted July 22, 2008 at 2:05PM in Talk Around The Playground General by vtmomof2 | Back

Life is crazy but wonderful.

As women we all know how hard it is.  We have many things we have to juggle, kids, careers for some, and for others staying home with our children.  We all struggle to do what is right for ourselves and for our families.  Does gov't have the right to interfere with these individual choices?  The current administration is trying to label contraceptives including the pill as causing abortions.  I will be honest, I am not that concerned with anybody's particular belief when it comes to abortion, to each their own I truly believe.  But one thing that we can agree on is that our own beliefs are just that, our own, it is not our place to put those beliefs onto another person.  I never try to change another's belief system, but I am asking that you sign Senator Hillary Clinton's petition to stop the changing of the definition of contraceptives to include abortions.  Contraceptives do not cause abortions, they prevent pregnancies and this is completely different.  If anything contraceptives prevent abortions by preventing unwanted pregnancies.  This issue really does not have anything to do with abortion or contraceptives, this is really an issue about whether the gov't has the right to interfere with personal decisions of women, and to allow the discrimination or humiliation of women who make a personal choice to use contraceptives.  I have a daughter and I know one of these days she will have to make these decisions, and I want her to have the ability to make these decisions without the gov't or any group getting involved in those decisions.  It is not our place to put our beliefs onto others.  That is what makes our country free because we have the freedom to make our own choices and to pursue whatever happiness we choose.  Please sign Senator Clinton's petition.

that is what I am afraid of. I think that we need to stop this from happening because really, this is how things start. They take away a small right or do a small change and see what the response is. When there is little to no response they can keep on going forward. This is what has already happened with warrantless wiretapping and the 4th amendment.
