Basic Washing Routine: 1. Wash the entire load on cold with detergent. Washing once on cold water is important to remove leftover "yuck" from your diapers. 2. Wash the entire load again on warm or hot - also with detergent. 3. Do a second rinse. 4. You can dry almost everything in the dryer. If you're having problems with diapers that stink after washing: 1. Try an extra rinse. Sometimes detergent residue can cause diapers to smell. 2. Wash once with a small squirt of liquid Dawn. Rinse well. 3. If the previous solutions don't work, try 1/4 cup of bleach in the warm/hot wash cycle. This was taken from http://www.cottonbabies.com/clothdiapers.php#detergent and they seem to have a pretty complete list of do's and don't's.Good luck!

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!
Also you can boil them with vinegar on the stove top if the smell stays..., but don't let your MIL see!

How did you find that out?

2beeorganic.com -Certified Organic Baby Care!
I have a little toilet sprayer (like a mini shower wand) that I found on Ebay 2 years ago. It's the best thing! I have it hooked to the water inlet so I spray the poo directly in to the toilet. I have a flip-top kitchen trash can that is lined with a waterproof laundry bag (like a dive bag) that I keep beside the toilet. The I just dump the bag into the wash when it's time. I also purchased a front-load washer. Yes, it was a lot of money, but it saves me a ton of water, has a sanitize cycle for the diapers and spins those babies almost dry! I used Seventh Generation Free & Clear for laundry. If it's not raining or snowing, the dipes go on the line for sunshine- it's does a natural bleaching and gives Mama and baby some needed sunshine (Vit D). I also purchased a bunch of baby wash cloths and made my own diaper wipes. I made a solution of water, a tad bit of miessence body wash, a couple drops of lavender E.O. and about 10 drops of GrapeSeed Extract (GSE) to help prevent any rashes or yeast. Just soak the wipes in this until ready to use. I had a plastic index card container (5x8) that worked great. Kudos for you for stepping in to the world of cloth diapers- it is so worth the extra effort! BTW- have you tried Seventh Generation, or Tushies as disposables (for traveling or when others are watching Baby?)

Make sure you dry them in the sun after you wash them. If not, they will have an awful smell.
