10 Ways to avoid BOREDOM and SQUIRRELY KIDS

Posted August 4, 2008 at 10:57AM in Activities, Arts & Crafts by dustbunny | Back

dishing the dirt, cleaning the chaos

Ok, well, last night was the first night I'd slept in my own bed since July 11. OMG, I realize it is already the 4th. That means my kids could actually be rockstars because (aside from a few wild incidents, like WWF and spitting in the airport), they handled the marathon visits/trips/suitcase lifestyle pretty well.

Now, I'm home and reality is setting in. I need to a)make up for lost time reading & getting them onto "smarter activities" (vs. endless video games- although tech time was outweighed with less tv and WAY more swimming!) and b) finding things to keep them happy and playing in harmony for the next month. So, I figured I'd collect a list of ideas that might get us all through the next month...:)

If you haven't done these yet, the time is near:

1. Backyard camping!
2. Fort building with sheets.
3. Create a street car "rug" made from canvas & a sharpie. Use favorite places in the not-to scale roadmap...
4. Ice cream sundaes...set them up outside with a tub & all the ingredients (recycled paper cups might make life cleaner here).
5. Post cards- make them and send them to grandma, cousins, friends.
6. Water balloon fight time (kids over 5).
7. Go blueberry picking!
8. Ride a train- any train, it's fun & the kids love it!
9. Go swimming- get there and have fun!
10. Take an ealry morning walk - WITHOUT THE KIDS...then it makes you more ready to deal when you get back, lol!
