Will the next one be ginger too??

Our son is almost 2 and a half. He's showing all the signs that he's about ready to start potty training (including wanting to wear his big boy underpants so badly to bed last night that my husband put them on over his diaper to sleep in...kinda defeats the purpose but was hilarious to see.). His preschool teacher has a method she likes that sounds like it will work for us, and she thinks he'll be ready by Christmas. We would love him to be there by March when our second baby is due. My question for you is...We are moving our son to a new room downstairs so that the wee one can have the nursery next to our room. I don't want him to move too close to March because I don't want him to feel like the baby is kicking him out. So we thought we'd move him over Christmas break. But do you think that potty training and a new room is too much? Should we spread it out over a couple of months and move him first or potty train first??

Thanks!!

You know how I feel about potty training - it isn't something that can really be planned. I personally don't think you can put a time frame on it but that is just my opinion. As far as moving his room I would say do it sooner rather than later so you can spin it as him getting his own big boy room instead of making it about the new baby that is coming.

I love my job, it gives me a break from my kids!

I think my son is around the same age as Sully. With his sisters encouragement he too likes to wear underpants over his diaper. My DD didn't get potty trained until she was 2.5 and my Dr. said to wait until our son was closer to 3. But each kid is different. Do you have a potty for him in the bathroom?

As for moving him you can do that anytime, even after the holidays depending on how adaptable he is to change. Hype up the new bedroom and maybe throw a party to celebrate his room with cake & new poster? I wouldn't even mention the baby moving in until later after Sully is settled into his new space.

Love the party idea! So far he's gotten to pick out his bedding and paint color, and he likes going downstairs to show people his paint choice which is still a 2X2 painted square on the wall. So far he's adapted to change pretty well; I just think that this change is going to be hard on me too since he'll be in the basement and farther away from us at night.

We do have a potty seat. Took him to Babies R us and let him pick out a seat and a stool to get up to the potty. I also let him pick out his big boy underpants (McQueen and Mater of course). I am all for letting your kiddo just tell you when they're ready, but he keeps asking and talking about it, so I think it's worth a shot. I think I'll know pretty quickly if he's not quite ready...

Good luck with the potty thing! It's a pain to carry a diaper bag with 2 sets of diapers! My friends son was ready shortly after he turned 2!
